thanks diesel would like to see what im looking for as my local dealer is pathetic as i dont have 1 im thinking a lot of road dirt will end up round the housing not to mention flying debris like stones etc

Manny - I really don't understand why you've offered this as an answer.

You've posted that you relocated your fuel filter and described it as an advantage on this thread which diesel has created to inform others how to change their factory fuel filter.

But you've not answered any questions regarding your considerations for doing so nor even posted an image of your innovation when requested to do so.

Your response is to direct a brother member to address their request to a Gearhead when you know very well that you're likely the only person in the world who has relocated a fuel filter on a RPO LUZ engine and therefore the only one who can respond.

If you truly believe that you've struck upon a superior engineering / safety / cost / convenience innovation that the manufacturer missed than please share your findings with the community, whom you are a part of, by way of a dedicated thread.

In my view, proceeding as you've done here serves to take the focus off of diesel's substantial contribution; which may not have been your intent, but is effectively a disservice to diesel and what he has done for all of us.

I just got this message . To answer a few quick questions. yes I relocated it to the engine compartment using a ALH MK4 TDI fuel filter . Not being rude or harsh here . Yes it can be done at the same time this mod WILL void your warranty as Chevy Dealer already pointed it out to me. When I have a chance as I have been very busy with my personal life and will try to post a few picture and information on how to .Also I am in the process of selling my Cruze Diesel as well.

thanks for the DIY does anyone happen to have the GM part number for fuel filter change kit? I'm going to be giving a it go at doing my own maintenance given that I will be putting at least 60k in miles a year on this car.

thank you. I was just looking at the filter element and not the whole kit which is more expensive. if you dont mind me asking what all comes in the kit. everyone thinks im crazy for my 200 mile round trip commute to work but i love living out in the country and really dont mind the drive at all. matter of fact i look forward to going to work just to drive then getting off work just to drive. I even keep a full size spare in my trunk just in case i get a flat which has already happened twice so far.

if you dont mind me asking how much was the fuel filter kit? it looks like you can buy them from a gm dealer on ebay for around $80.

Got my first one for $84. Pretty deceptively elaborate filter and worth the money. There's a thread on here somewhere about it. I think you can get them for high $70s but I wanted to shop my local dealer and paid a couple bucks more to give them the business. List is like $120

The manufacturer's estimate is 30,000 miles, but the DIC reports remaining fuel filter life based on the number of gallons of fuel used. You should hit 0% on the fuel filter page of the DIC after burning 1000 gallons of fuel.

Just changed out my fuel filter after 34K. Still had 16% left on the DIC. Wanted to change it out after this harsh winter in the northeast just to be sure. I have never drained the filter of water and when removing the filter, there was no apparent water draining when I loosened the plug (good sign!).

Also wanted to comment on the filter removal procedure. Extremely simple removal and reinstallation process. I noted that my filter canister was very tight and required a good bit of torque to loosen up. The whole canister and body of the filter was moving and rocking during removal, not sure if this was noticed by others during a changeout.

Does anyone know the hex socket size required to remove the canister? Similar to the steps in the 1st thread, I used a pipe wrench to remove, but a socket would certainly help.

FYI: I purchased the filter from gmpartsnow.com and paid about $84 with shipping. I was at the dealership getting some other maintenance done and thought to ask them how much to install the filter if I provided it. They scratched their heads and told me $49.95.

will be switching my fuel filter out this weekend and was checking this tread to get the housing socket size. looks like no updates so ill see if i can get it figured out this weekend.

Well after dropping the deflector down for the third time and many trial and errors the correct socket size is 36mm. I know I could of used a pipe wrench but I'm real picky about the tools I use on my car.
