I just got this message . To answer a few quick questions. yes I relocated it to the engine compartment using a ALH MK4 TDI fuel filter . Not being rude or harsh here . Yes it can be done at the same time this mod WILL void your warranty as Chevy Dealer already pointed it out to me. When I have a chance as I have been very busy with my personal life and will try to post a few picture and information on how to .Also I am in the process of selling my Cruze Diesel as well.
I still would like to see this. 4 months later and no time to post pics??

As I mentioned in another thread, I ran across a new second part number while shopping for my fuel filter. I ordered the new part number 23456595 last week (Amazon - $78 with free shipping) and installed this afternoon. The dimensions looked identical to the OEM filter that I took out, and it contained the same O-rings as the kit with the other part number that everyone has been using. The only difference I could identify is that the circle of plastic tabs that goes around the bottom of the filter in the picture at FUEL FILTER | Genuine GM | 22937279 was now a solid circle instead of 6 tabs. Fit was good and everything worked after the initial priming of the system, so perhaps the change to the design of the bottom is the reason for the part number change or maybe it's a new supplier. Either way it works, though, so it seems it is safe to order 23456595 for the CTD fuel filters.

Thanks for the note. I wonder what the engineering reason for the difference is.

Well I did my first oil change today at 15k miles. I got the CTD with 13k miles on it and according to the sticker the dealer changed it at 12k miles so it had 3k miles on it. I just felt better about changing it and knowing that it now has AC Delco dexos2 5w-30 oil in it and a PF2260G filter. I also changed out the fuel filter because I found out that the previous owner used B100 in it. It didn't look bad. But I can say this much, that housing didn't want to come off. I was using an open end wrench and it kept distorting the housing. Finally had to go to AutoZone and use the loaner tool program and got a six point 32mm socket. It worked but man that thing was torqued on there. I was scared I was going to break it from the vehicle. Made sure not to smoke it on.

Also, GM must have been "high" when they designed the oil drain plug. Exactly what purpose does it serve being designed like it is with the hollow shaft and holes in it? What a mess opening it up. If there isn't any purpose to it and installing a Fumoto valve will work, that is the route I'm going to take.

Yep, if you have the vehicle on any type of incline, removing the oil filter will make a mess due to the oil not falling out of the splash pan hole but hitting it and running down the pan. Might just stick a funnel up from the inside of the splash pan hole to catch the oil and direct it down to the catch pan. Either that or stick a 2" pvc pipe up to the filter drip rail to collect the oil coming down.

Just a little venting, but really GM, 4.75 qts. Why not just make it an even 5qts, would it have killed you to expand the pan that extra 8 oz? Might do a little digging but I think 5qts will work with no issues. I have been putting 6qts into our Acadia since new and it has 66k on it with no issues and it calls for 5.5qts.

On a side note, got some info that GM has reduced the oil capacity on all there new 2014 and up GM trucks with the 5.3 and 6.2 from 8.5qts to just 8qts. If I can find that info I will post the link.

Does this coincide with your overall MPG as calculated by other methods?

Good question. I did the math and it equates to 925 gallons which equals 3,500 litres.

I'm not sure where the others got the 1,000 gallon figure from?

If your Cruze is a native-metric build, then that sounds about right. (You are in Canada, aren't you?) Just like your economy-game numbers are set to a conveniently round metric number, and don't calculate out to exactly our 25/50/500, they probably set your fuel filter monitor for 3500 liters rather than 3785.4, which would be the exact conversion for 1000 gallons.

Thanks for the reminder. I will check that screen in the DIC and see what it says.

Okay - so when I got to the car late this afternoon the DIC said that 3,780 litres had passed through the engine.

1,000 U.S. Gallons = 3,785 litres.

What year is your Cruze, what country was it built in, and what engine does it have?

On the off-chance it is a 2009-10 Korean-build, to reset the Oil Life Monitor (and avoid a code 82): turn the key to the on position, push the accelerator pedal to the floor 3 times, and then turn the key to the off position. Do this within 5 seconds, and it will reset.

...Turn the key to the on position until you hear the lift pump stop running. Do this at least 6 or 7 times. You will hear fuel gushing and bubbling...
@diesel, how long did it take for the "gushing and bubbling" sound to go away and return to normal when you turn the key on? I cycled my pump (key) numerous times, then started the car and ran it a few minutes, then cycled the key a couple more times, started the car again, and repeated this whole process about 5-6 times. Every time I cycle the pump, I still get some gushing/bubbling sound. The engine did start just a bit rough one of the times, but nothing significant other than that. There are no leaks that I can see.

Ours is sitting at 9%, just over 34k miles currently, so looks like I'm getting closer to doing this.

So as far as draining it is concerned, if I loosen the drain nut, it'll drain forever? Or does it just seem like it, until you loosen the housing and dump it all? Perhaps it just gets a siphon going and pulls more fuel out of the lines? Water should drain out relatively quickly, since it'll always be at the bottom, the rest would just be straight diesel.

Unrelated, but neat to find (perhaps it was already posted that I didn't see): https://www.mann-hummel.com/en/corp...s]=497&cHash=eadf2557ba6f7b908baa7970c4eced8a

So is that filter cheaper? Is the only filter available right now from gm?

I'm pretty sure that's who developed the OEM filter (so I'd assume, also who manufacturers the Delco).
