HOW TO: Gain access to side-markers

So you want to get to your side-markers to replace a bulb or the entire unit. This is a simple quick guide to doing so.

(as with anything, follow this with your own risk, I take no responsibility for damage or injury, and full responsibility for making this the easiest process it can be)

Tools needed:
Screwdriver
T20 Bit

Step 1:
Turn your wheels to the opposite side you will be working on, allowing room to access three screws.

Step 2:
Remove said screws.

Step 3:
Next, look under the vehicle, directly under the plastic fender well you removed the 3 screws from, in front of the tire and locate the small "aero panel" and remove both screws from it.

Step 4:
You are now able to pull the fender well back a little bit, enough that you can reach in and press the clip to release the lense.

Step 5:
Re-install the lense by applying light pressure and allowing it to clip into place. Reverse the steps, being sure to line up all holes starting with the small "aero panel" and reinstall the 5 screws.

Step 6:
Crack open a frosty beverage and savor in the fact you spent >5 minutes, removed 5 screws and completed your goal.:eek:ccasion14:

Correct me if I am wrong but why can't you just pop the lens out from the outside of the car. I used a dash trim tool, took 2 seconds and upgraded my bulbs to LED. I suppose this way would be easier on the clips right? Anyways great write up and love the clear lens with black housings. I want them so bad but haven't convinced myself of footing the bill yet. Cheers.
Im sure you could do that, but like you said im afraid it would put too much stress on the clips. To be honest, the quality of these aren't the greatest. I got them cheap because they had a broken clip. Call me paranoid but they dont feel as well built as the stockers. I've got a project in the works, stay tuned!

You can do it from the outside, I know a few people that have a few times along with me and my girlfriends Cruzes. But after at least ten times of doing it to mine I broke the clip, so I had to glue the clip back in place and gently pop it back in hoping it would hold. Thankfully it has held for a few months, but I'm afraid to touch it or pop another one out from the outside.

So yes you can pop it out from the outside, but at a risk.

Its not even necessary to remove the screws under the front bumper. Its possible to save 5 minutes and just remove the 3 screws from the fender well and reach in to release the lense.
The stock bulb is your standard white. It's the lense that makes it Amber in color, that's why I have the Amber LED's.

It's not technically necessary to remove ANY screws to do this. As for the additional >5 minutes, I like the skin on my wrists/arms. Lol.
Who cares if it takes 5 or 15 minutes, do it the smart way, remove the screws and go from the inside. Chances are you will only be doing this one time unless you change bulbs later or go back to stock.

I'd rather not break anything when I get mine.

I did it the overcomplicated way. But just the same took the few minutes to remove all screws so I would not damage my paint trying to pry out the lens.

Those bulbs look exactly like the ones I installed in my dome/map lights. Where did you order yours from? I'd tell you but Ebay is blocked at work :S
