How-To: match TPMS sensors after tire rotation - 2012 and older
Go back to COMG- The Cruze Owner's Maintenance Guide
This tutorial is only applicable to Cruzes manufactured in mid-2012 and older. All 2013+ Cruzes will require a relearn tool to correct the TPMS sensor locations.
The TPMS sensors can also be matched to each tire/wheel position by increasing or decreasing the tire’s air pressure. Personally, I start this procedure by inflating the tires to the maximum as shown on the sidewalls. You will see why when you do the matching process. Also, if a horn chirp does not sound after 35 seconds for any of the 4 sensors, turn the ignition OFF to exit the learn mode and repeat the procedure from step 1.
1. Set the parking brake.
2. Turn the key to run (do not start the car).
3. Using the control on the stalk, press the menu button to get to your tire pressure readings.
4. Press clear to reset. Your horn should chirp twice.
5. You have 2 minutes to match the first tire/wheel position and 5 minutes to complete the procedure.
6. Start with the driver side (left) front tire. Deflate the pressure until the horn chirps. Yes, the pressure will get really low, which is why I inflate to max before I start. Also, it takes a few seconds for the system to catch up.
7. Move the to passenger side front tire. Repeat.
8. Move to the passenger side rear tire. Repeat.
9. Finish with the driver side rear tire. When complete, the horn will sound twice.
10. Refill your tires to whatever pressure you run (I'm staying away from this one).
One thing that I noticed happened to me twice is that when I got done, the Engine light came on. However, after driving the car, it turned itself off. Not sure what causes this. Also, I noticed that when the engine light was on, the remote start did not work. Again, it resolved itself with no issues.

It's easier to just go to the dealer and have them relearn it for you for free. We do it all the time. They have a special tool to do it with. We get them for like $40 I think, not sure if they're available to the public.
Are you talking about the CEL when the key is on, engine off while you're learning the tires? If so, that's supposed to happen.

While I have a great dealership, I prefer to do it myself as it is an easy process.
Um, I know it should be on when the key is on with the engine off. The CEL comes on stays on until the key is cycled a few times or the vehicle is driven for a few miles. Even the self check does not reset it right away.

I asked about that and the dealer said the tool would cost 500 , Where do you get yours ???
Also the Owners manual said to use a relearn tool...

Never heard of this "drop Pressure " relearn process .
Kinda good to know This is much cheaper than what the dealer told me ... On the older stuff you can do this with a scanner and a magnet
The manual 'drop-pressure' relearn process does work on 2012 Cruzes (at least early ones). I have done 3 rotations so far in the 26k that I have on it. I took delivery of mine 10NOV2011. (sequence number is 148182). I do it on my 2004 Tahoe and when I saw it was not in the Cruze manual, I decided to try it. The last rotation I performed did not give me a CEL. I was hoping it would so I could have had Onstar diagnose it.

Just tryed to do this on my feb 2012 cruze and it dont work.
Sorry, been a while since I've been around. Busy as you can imagine with those new recalls..
Yes, that's it! They run on a little 9v battery.

Mine was built September 2011 and the deflate tire method worked fine for me.

I tried the pressure drop method on my '12 to no avail... So I purchased the Kent-Moore EL-50448 on EBay and it worked great. I completed the re-learn process in about 20 seconds.

Only if you want to know the correct tire position as stated in an earlier post. If not when it says left front is low then it is really the left rear, until you rotate them again.
This method posted by the OP is good only for early 2011 and older after that it requires a tool.
