Hello, my '15 Chevy Cruze is confusing me. On past cars I could rev the engine by moving an arm on the throttle body, but I'm scratching my head to find such an arm.

Is this gone in new car designs? Am I missing something like being hidden under plastic?

It’s all in the throttle body now. A motor does it.

Out of curiosity, what did you drive before your Cruze? Drive by wire has been around in one form or another for the better part of 20 years.

If you want to be real confused: try and rev my Volt.

Most of the time there isn't even anything to rev, and if the engine is running, it's very much doing what it wants.

In a few years throttle valves will be the exception not the norm... At least assuming no discovery of the century makes EVs more viable.

Okay they’ll still have throttle valves but in the same way a diesel has a throttle valve... Only uses in special situations.
