Hey Guys,

First post here but just wanted to run a conversation I just had by you guys...maybe it will bring you a little bit of joy today or I will just look like I know nothing :)

I've owned a few cars by now, i've done maintenance and several bolt-ons on all of them, so i'm not completely "car illiterate"...this however was a new one for me.

While calling around getting prices on Window Tint, this tint shop here in Anderson gave me a price higher than all the others. When I confronted the person on the phone that they were higher, they mentioned "Oh yea, the Cruze has to have a specific film so the tint doesn't interrupt with the Bluetooth and Navigation features"...

Again, i'm not stupid but this is the first i've heard of this...i'm calling BS but since this i my first Chevy Cruze, I wanted to check with the experts here :)

PS...I don't even have built in Navigation so it's more so the Bluetooth I want to confirm which..i'm inside the car so don't see how tint would have any affect. I've also owned cars with 20% tint and ran GPS just fine within the car so, idk what they are talking about :)

Thanks!

What are they tinting - the roof? The antenna is on the roof and tinting has no impact on this. Stay away from this shop as they are trying to rip you off.

@obermd, exactly! It's sad that this shop has better reviews than the other places i've checked here... Not looking good for the Cruze :(
Ceramic FTW.
You shoulda told him that you plan to wear a tinfoil hat when you drive to counteract the signal interference due to the use of "regular" film.

Even though the antenna is on the roof, if you don't have the proper film on your sunroof it will interfere if you have the sunroof open. I have seen this on a few different cars and my GXP in particular. If I open my sunroof on that car, I get intermittent reception for XM/Sirius. If you don't have a sunroof or don't open it, I wouldn't worry about it. I wish my GXP didn't have one for sure, nothing but noise makers and potential water leak spots.

Thanks for the replies! Hopefully I provided some entertainment for your day haha. I do not have a sunroof :)
Well, I know some tints will block/reflect radio waves. I'd imagine that if you tint behind that big black box that holds the rear view mirror, you'd disable the TPMS and remote functions. I can't see how that would mess with Bluetooth (unless the reflections create problems) or navigation.

It could also mess with your cell phone - but that would apply to all cars.
Sup Mad_Cat ..where would the Bluetooth Module be located also the siriusxM reciever be located in your GXP ?

In reguards to the OP's Post . There is the chance that you may get interference with the reception of your XM and quite possibly the Bluetooth module from an inferior product . We are talking about Radio Frequencies and there is many ways to interfere with reception ..Look for 3M products for window tints Made in the U.S.A.

^ Agreed on the 3M, the company itself gives a lifetime warranty their tint (I just got it installed on my Diesel, and have had it for almost 2 years on my Eco) and have never had a complaint at all and the heat rejection is fantastic.

Tint will have no effect on any of this even if your radio antenna is in the window it won't block it either. Except the front and back for radar detectors if you have the metal type of tint. If you sunroof is messing with XM reception when its open and its a factory XM radio its blocking the angle that the XM is coming to your car. Which can happen at different times of the year because of angle of the earth to the satellites.

I had after market XM on my 2002 Grandprix and the antenna was inside behind tint with no issues. These guys have no idea what they are talking about. Go somewhere else.

Where would we be able to read this Google review of you putting in a Google review ? Just curious !
For the record, I have "regular tint" and everything seems to function as advertised! Lol!

Sounds like either they are completely off the wall, or they are trying to BS their way into making more money. Either way, I'd stay away from that place!
