Injectors 2 & 4 have 0-volts at the Fuse Box

Wondering if someone can help. I recently got a check service engine light and rolled into my local AutoZone. They ran a quick scan of the OBD codes. They told me there may be a problem with the injectors. I was going to remove the fuel rail, and they advised me to remove the fuses from the fuse box for the injectors to avoid popping the fuses. The car was running, and I removed the fuse for injector #s 2 & 4 (fuse position # 8) and noticed that nothing happened, when I removed the fuse for injector 1 & 3 which is fuse position #9, the car shut off. I checked the voltage across the fuses to see what the voltage read. When removing the fuse and checking the voltage for injectors 1 & 3 I got 10.92v which from what I understand is normal but got 0 volts across the fuse on injectors 2 & 4(fuse position # 8)? Does anyone know what may cause this or has anyone had this problem? Or is this normal?

So what you're saying is the car is only running on 2 cylinders.
I can only assume so, because it appears that there is no voltage running to injector 2 & 4. Is this possible?
Probably just design carry over for 8 cylinders. The switching, if it’s connected to anything, is controlled by the ECM. So reading 0 volts isn’t too surprising.

Next time just pull out the negative terminal :).

What year and engine do you have? My first thought is to get an electrical drawing of the injectors and fuses and see what that reveals.

Hi,

In the drawing I have, F9 supplies power to all four injectors and also goes to the ECM. I see F8, but the drawing does not show where it goes. The owner's manual does confirm both F8 and F9 are for fuel injection. If I get a chance, I'll look around some more for what F8 does.

Post or PM me your email addy and I'll send you the drawing I have for F9 and the fuel injectors.

If you have no voltage to injectors 2 and 4. Then you'd only be running on 2 cylinders. At which point the car wouldn't be running at all.

If it did. You'd be struggling to go anywhere.

So if your car is running fine. Then voltage to 2 and 4 isn't needed. There's nothing wrong and your probably looking at a dead horse that's not originally wired for power.

I had what appeared to be no voltage at injectors 2 & 4, and it looks like that is normal at the fuse box. I'm almost positive there is actual 12volts at the injectors themselves, I'll be using a multi-m tomorrow to confirm. Thanks for the info guys. It really helped. I did a DTC scan today and got 9 codes returned. P1101, P0171, P0106, P0270(Low voltage injectors), and some others. Every thing is pointing towards replacing the valve cover plate that sits on top of the motor. I will replace the intake manifold also, the valve (orange rubber bulb looking thing) inside the manifold is completely worn out or stuck. Just as an FYI. None the less, thanks for the info/peace of mind.
@sams18 I'm receiving similar codes and would like to know if your car is operational again, please. If so, what did you do that seemed to be the root cause(s)? I'm receiving P0301, P0351, and P0261 codes. I've replaced the ignition coil, spark plugs and confirmed fuse 09 and 08 are functional. Thanks!
