Installed K&N CAI about 2-3 weeks ago

Check engine light came on P0171 and some other code i cant remember off the top of my head, Says could be "fuel injector" and bank 1 is running lean? i think thats what it said but it does seem to have a rough idle. Sometimes itll drop down to 600 in neutral and sometimes itll idle at about 800 jump to 1000 and drop again slowly and then itll run fine. Is this due to the CAI? I read somewhere that i wouldnt need a tune for the K&N CAI but will need one for the injen. Whats your guys opinions? Car was running 100% when i bought it about a month ago. Went on vacation for about a week (car sat in parking lot whole time) and come back and its like this

Car is a 2012 LT RS Manual 6 speed. 71.5k Miles on it.

The PCV valve that is part of the cam cover likely failed.....not related to your modification.
If your car is less than five years since its 'In service date' this is a covered repair under powertrain.

In speaking with the guys at the dealer I hang out at, the failed intake manifold check valve seems to be around 80% when the PCV has failed...so they generally find themselves replacing the manifold at the same time.

If you still have coverage or purchased a service contract, you should be fine......otherwise, P and L in the 5 to 7 hundred range.

i should still have factory warranty but would the cold air intake void that warranty?

In theory, the mod would not raise eyebrows.......nor should it cause a problem, however.......sometimes you hit a dealer that tries to make an issue out of it and although legally they don't have the right, thay can make your life miserable.

Just go back to stock and let them repair it......minimize your potential brain damage.

Question for you Rob, I am replacing the valve cover again today, this will be the 3rd one on the car. Talking with Andrei and reading all the post I'm pretty sure my manifold is a goner also. You had mentioned above that "under warranty they will likely be replacing both" I just had to shell out $$ for the cover. With only being 11,057 miles out of warranty what are the chances GM would "good will" this for me seeing how I'm continuing to have problem after problem?? Or would Customer Care look into this for me as well??

I would hope being a GM employee they could help me out, being on the front lines and all..

I would have to say that anything beyond the 5/100 pt warranty is highly unlikely.

From the manufacturers standpoint, components that failed during pt coverage were repaired/replaced as per the policy and procedures agreement.
After that..............well, it had to end sometime.

For example, Chevrolet does a customer satisfaction override repair at 11000 miles after warranty ended.........the next guy, that is 20000 miles past now thinks he should get additional coverage.......and so on and so on.

So, to avoid such a mindset, manufacturers are (and rightfully so) rather firm with the coverage cutoffs.

I've seen goodwill extended when you have exceeded the time but not exceeded the mileage.

I've never seen it the other way: i.e. Exceeded mileage but not exceeded time.

Most dealerships warranty a New GM part for 12 months/12,000 miles from the date it was replaced, so if you've had it done multiple times, and it's still within that 12/12,000 period from the most recent repair, I'd question the dealership about covering it.

12/12 coverage only applies to repairs that a customer paid for.

The coverage does not apply to repairs performed during the warranty period.........those repairs would only be covered for any remaining coverage.

In this case though, the last cam cover was replaced 50k+ miles ago and the car is now well beyond powertrain coverage.
