I've build a few turbo cars, and I started inpecting the engine bay on the Cruze, and I have no plans to make this thing crank out HP numbers, but I always like to see efficency. Example my WRX, mods FMIC, equil legnth manifold, custom self designed fuel system, FMIC smallest upgrade turbo 16g, and meth.No mods to the motor, stock boost is 14psi, I run 16psi.
AWD dyno stock on Dyno Jet was 170whp, after my mods and tuning 300whp.

I'm looking to just fix what seems bad on the Cruze, first look. What is up with the radiator hose style intercooler cold pipe. I see this as first step in improving boost responce w/o sacrifice to fuel econ. A hard pipe should reduce lag.
Has anyone started to make replacements, Or should I have my fab guy make some..? If so i was contimplating designing a full fmic kit, Something I normaly wouldnt hesitate on doing, but I just got this thing 2 days ago

FMIC is going to be one of my first big mods... for efficiency as well tho. Only reason I will redo anything on this car is in the hopes of improving the fuel economy!

I'm still debating on doing a full FMIC kit or just making replacement hard pipes. The isnt much room to put a front mount on with out modifications to the bumper/ support from what I quickly looked at.

I could without to much issue make hard pipes for the stock system, would any one be interested if I went ahead to order some?

i would def be interested.zzp fabbed up a quick one for their cruze i think they plan on releasing.from what ive seen it doesnt look as if we can go too big without removing crash bar support. def room tho to go big enough to improve efficiency.I have been thinking bout going to Forced Air Tech as they are located by me and see what they can manage to do.

I talked to my good, friend I used to work with at my custom shop, we looked the car over and will be looking forward into some r&d on intercooler piping, maybe full fmic kit, also intake system.

We could go nuts and do a full turbo kit with manifold, buI think the market for the cruze is more so on fuel efficent mods, so that is the path we most likely go for.

I plan to do all hard pipes and a fmic as soon and a couple kits hit the market, i know zzp claims huge gains in efficiency over the stock intercooler with their kit.

The only issue is if you have a Eco which has a shutter system built into the front bumper, it will most likely need to be removed altogether to fit a fmic. I've had my bumper off the car a couple times already looking at the shutter system and I'm not a big fan of the design, i have no problem ditching it....

I would say if the gains in efficiency are greater than shutters added gain... ditch the shutters for sure!

Intake, 18" wheels, and then Intercooler piping/FMIC are my next three mods in that order.

I would be interested....but the only problem is with any mod for improved MPG, we are all looking to save money on fuel costs...so any mod will have to be reasonably priced in relation to the MPG gains

which may hinder the market for any such products.

I would disagree. There might be more fuel economy folk buying Cruzes but there are more power driven people actually spending money. At least 5 people have purchased Tunes and over 10 have purchased intakes

I think the mpg haven't spent any money yet...because the price isn't right on any of these products for the mpg increase gained...you are correct that those looking for power will spend the money to go faster....mpg'ers are cheap buggers :th_dblthumb2:

If these stock ic's really reach air outlet temps 40 degrees and above over ambient like some have been saying, then I don't see how a more efficient intercooler would decrease mpg.

They aren't making hard pipes for the factory intercooler right now because the stock one is supposedly so inneficient that it wouldn't be worth the money unless you are looking for cosmetics.

I could see some 400whp builds in the future with these cars that still average low 30's mpg but that won't come until the market is created. Once the market is created, prices will become competitive and lower. It's just a matter of time, some companies may be already looking into develop parts for the platform but do not want to take that plunge into R&D if they think there is no customer base.
