About two weeks ago at 83,365miles my car triggered the DEF tank heater fault. It has been in the shop since (waiting on a replacement tank), with another Cruze diesel in for the same issue sitting for some 4 weeks still waiting on parts. My dealer has taken great car of me, put me in a nice silverado loaner. That led me to wanting a truck and after getting a good value for my trade and a fair price for the new truck, the cruze has been traded in.

I drive 40,000 miles a year for work and get reimbursed on the IRS per mile rate. Over the past 27 months the cruze has been a wonderful car. I've replaced the tires once, had to put on a new pair due to a hole ripped through a tire and a few missed rotations. The battery was replaced at 18 months. Those issues and of course the DEF tank not withstanding, the cruze has been flawless. My lifetime fuel economy sits right at 40mpg, city highway and Texas 80 mph interstate with a 20 mph head wind included. All told fuel, service, insurance, and depreciation, 0.37 cents per mile (Reimbursed at .545-.565 cents per mile).

The cruze has roadtriped, been my office, and generally home away from home. I will miss the little diesel, I do hope GM continues to support them. The next cruze diesel has a high bar to match. Thank you Cruze talk for providing all the info needed to keep the diesel running strong the past two years.

Sorry to hear you are "Cruzeless" because of problems with the DEF, but glad to hear you got a good deal on your replacement/taken care of by the dealer. You are always welcome here to get in the conversation. Good luck with the new truck and hope to hear from you again.

Glad to hear the Cruze was a good vehicle for you, realistically, most of the people here will not own a Cruze forever. Needs, wants and life situations change which sometimes requires a different vehicle. A truck is a great vehicle for someone who can utilize all a truck has to offer,, it's essentially a vehicle with a trailer built in. If you do not really plan on using a truck for it's intended purpose frequently, an SUV with a trailer may be a more useful option.

Much of my family has/still works for GM. My dad has had more Sierras and Silverados than I can count. Most of them were crew cab 1500 4x4s with the 5.3L V8 but some of them were 2500s and had the 6.0L V8 and one was a denali with the 6.2L V8. I love the vortec V8s with an irrational passion since they've been such a big part of my life. I can only offer my highest, slightly biased, recommendations for the GM truck family. I can definitely understand why after driving one you would make the switch to a truck.

At least since most people change vehicles every 5-10 years, you'll likely get the chance to choose the Cruze again. I think it's going to be around for a little while, and even if it isn't, it was so popular, you'll be able to find tons of used Cruzes around. The diesel will probably remain kind of rare though, I think the CTD owners will hold on to their cars. Enjoy your new vehicle, and just because you don't have a Cruze anymore doesn't mean you have to stop coming to CruzeTalk! Gotta keep up with all the latest information.

Sounds like over all the CTD served you very well. GM needs to get the DEF tank issue fixed and or at least have replacements available faster than a month. Nice to hear dealer took care of you. Best of luck in a Truck!

Best of luck on the new truck and thanks for the post. Just for a data point, might I ask what they gave you on trade for the Cruze with those miles? The ACV number... KBB says you should have gotten in the $8500 range.

They gave me 10,000 (had the pioneer system with navigation). Probably a little less than I really wanted, but I was in the dealer for all of 45 minutes not test driving.

If you are in the DFW area the dealer in Grapevine is top notch. I have been very happy with every interaction there.

I do hope they get the tank issue sorted. If not I'm sure a correctly sized and placed resistor would fix it.

Thanks for that. Even with the options, I will say you did quite well on the trade!
