K&N not recommended by chevy!

ive talked to chevy service department, he said they do not recommend k&n products because of the oil in it, i had one in 5 diff. vehicles and never had a problem. K&N says it will not hurt a chevy and stand behind there warranty policy. So my question is why does chevy seem so against K&N or any oil based filters, or air intake product. I also asked if they recommended air intake systems and they said they did but it was the ones made by GM , but they dont make anything for the cruze! So whats your thoughts?

I suspected that they didn't filter as well myself. The engine gets more air seems logical to me there has to be more dirt passing through also. That's why I didn't convert to the K&N filter. If I needed more power I would have purchased a different car.

Two reasons why GM doesn't like the K&N...

1. Because they're known for coming over-oiled, and they're known for getting that oil sucked into the MAF sensor, and causing it to have to be replaced.

2. Because GM is on the hook for the warranty for 100k miles, and the K&N filter lets ~100 TIMES as much dirt through as the AC Delco filter does... Believe it or not, dirt/dust does add wear to turbos, valves, rings, cylinder walls, and everything that the oil touches... Speaking of oil, the OLM then becomes "optimistic" when the oil gets bunches of dirt in it to plug the filter, as well as wear on the engine, if it's small enough that the filter won't catch it...

Yeah, for most people, they won't see extra wear and such, but if you drive on gravel roads a lot, or in dusty environments, there will be a shortened engine lifespan resulting from the extra dirt getting through...
