Cruze has just started what sounds like LOUD lifter tick. Belt looks smooth, tensioner is not jumping.

I’ve got a video if anyone wants to PM me their number I can text a video

Do these motors bend rods?? Or am I just looking at a bad lifter/lifters?

Check for a loose spark plug.......sounds just like a stuck lifter.

Check your EVAP purge solenoid, mine made alot of noise before I changed it and the annoying louder tick (our cars have noisy injectors from the factory). Easiest way to check is simply grip it while the car is running.
Yeah pretty sure it’s the purge valve— having it looked at on Saturday, thanks all!

my cruze started making a ticking sound and at first i thought it was due to an overdue oil change. got that done and it was still ticking google search suggested it may be timing belt. mechanic said it could be timing belt or lifter. check engine light is now on. if it is lifter what am i roughly looking at for repair cost in canada?

1.4 or 1.8?

Chain driven timing, no belt. Chains rarely an issue, but sometimes the guide bolts do start to rattle. You can find out where the noise is coming from with a 'mechanics stethoscope - a paper towel tube to the top of timing cover will do.

Lifter failure has happened to a couple 1.4T's. It's a distinct clacking noise. Post a video and we'll probably be able to tell.
