Lost my CEL virginity...
Well, I'm almost in denial - but at 92,000 miles Scarlet had her first CEL yesterday as wifey left the grocery store. Just a P0420 that hasn't immediately come back. While inspecting everything under the hood I noticed low coolant in the overflow and subsequently found evidence of Dexcool residue under the T-stat housing, so she's coming due for some maintenance. I'd hoped to wait 'til 100K but it's close enough - this will be the first "irregular" maintenance I've done so I'm still happy with her track record. Taking 'er to Maine next week, yee ha!

You know, I recently bought a used Cruze with 140K on it. Got a steal on it but knew it was going to need some love. Just yesterday I did some research on my car and discovered that it started out as a rental when it was new until it had 34K on it. Then it was sold in an auction, a dealer got it and sold it to someone who lived in a small Iowa town. I checked Google maps and their house didn't have a garage. These folks sold the Cruze to their daughter in the same town and again no garage. I can't imagine the early 20's mom maintained it well during her three-year ownership. A month later this car is really coming around. Runs like a dream, giving me high 30's - low 40's on the highway. I am amazed at how quiet this car is going down the road. I will have almost 4K in this car after buying it, putting new ECO wheels, tires, wheel speed sensor, TPMS sensor, suspension, brakes, tune up, fluid flushes and other ECO parts (rear spoiler, all lower panels underneath the car & front curb finder). It is super comfortable to drive and feels solid. I am betting I will get a lot of life out of this car despite her rough upbringing!
The last time my car was at a dealership (save for one visit for tires) was in summer of 2014, and it hasn't had the programming update to my knowledge. I seem to recall reading that owners saw a hit in fuel economy after the update - am I wrong?
Brianguy1979, I'm glad to hear somebody else satisfied with the Cruze! It sounds like you're doing good with your car - I cringe every time I see one beat up or clearly just being driven to death. I love my car's handling and it's not really uncomfortable to me, especially in the context of being an economy car. I find it really pleasant for long trips - good fuel range, the 1.4 loves the highway, and the manual trans. and sharp handling make it a lot of fun on twisty roads through the hills. And I really believe it's possible to own a Cruze without it becoming any more a money pit than a lot of other models - you just have to know how to give it the proper TLC. Good luck with your car!

Maybe, although the cat code suggests otherwise. They over-fueled at medium to heavy throttle and the unburned fuel would slowly reduce the effectiveness of the cat converters. The re-flash adjusted the sensitivity of the rear O2 sensor monitoring the cat and reduced the unnecessary overfueling.Oh well. Does that mean the problem didn't apply to stick shifts?
