Low Coolant and leaking waterpump

15841 Views 13 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  earnestwheeler36
Well fellow Cruze owners it has finally happened to me after 87,000 miles. A couple of days ago I parked my Cruze in the garage and when I pulled it out I noticed a small gathering of liquid on the pulley side of the engine on the garage floor. I took a white paper towel and wiped it up and noticed it was reddish pink in color. I immediately lifted my hood and noticed that my coolant reservoir was completely low and also that below the water pump pulley it is very wet. Looks like I will be going into the dealership for a new water pump. I am thankful that it is still under the powertrain warranty. I also have GM major guard so at least I am covered either way.

Hope all goes well, and you are back up and running soon.
That 's Nice ! Beats Busting Knuckles to Replace on your own .
Both of you make a solid point. I just refilled the reservoir because the waterpump is leaking slowly so I am still driving the car until I drop it off on Mon. Either I will drive my Suburban or I will drive my Mercury Grand Marquis while my Cruze is being fixed.
Mine went out at 78k miles the first time, and the second didn't make it 5k miles. Looks like we might want to preventatively replace the water pumps at 75k mile intervals, eh?

Hey there!

Dropping the Cruze off tonight. Spoke with Pete Marino, a long time friend and service manager at Ingersoll Chevy and he said they just issued a recall for those water pumps. Anyway gonna be fixed up good as new by Thursday.

Please double check on the recall status. Your friend might be referring to the Notice about low coolant without a leak. If there really is a recall on the water pumps we definitely want to spread that information.

My apologies to everyone. Its not a Recall. Its a TSB.
Pete did also state that they have done quite a few water pumps as it seems to be a prevalent problem and was well known of.
Just a quick update here for everyone. I got my car back from the dealership yesterday and the water pump was leaking from the weep hole. All repaired and no charge and is good as new.

As of right now so far so good! Operating temperature is back to normal and all is good.
My water pump is bad and I think it might have caused other issues to my car
