So I back out of my long, palatial driveway each morning and then head down my serene, tranquil street to work. (So I can pay for my Cruze.) It seems as I do this every morning I seem to feel/hear the sound of like a metal flap opening or closing underneath the car near the engine. I don't hear it any other times I drive the car during the day - just that first pull away in the morning.

Do you know what this might be?

This probably won't help you but I have the same thing going on. I'm assuming it's an actuator of some kind that activates the first time I hit 20km/h after each start up. There is also a computer click under the dash each time it happens.

I had the same concern when I heard it too. I believe it is the ABS checking. Mine happens at around 20km/hr everytime I drive away. You should feel/hear the brake pedal shake or move slightly.
