And dont forget everynight single digit and below zero record low temperatures for the lower mountains of Idaho during the month of Jan.
My goal for this spring and summer is to avg 53-54mpg so that by the time winter arrives it wont have such a big impact on my overall avg mpg.

My avg mpg decreased slightly during august because of record heat and the occasional use of the a/c. Im predicting 52-53mpg for september and october.

I surely do not do the highway driving you do(Cincinnati is consistently stop and go and I only have 1 tenth of the Mileage on my car. What kind of mods have you done(tune/ intake etc) My best MPG in July was only 44.6 but that was vacation drive to Fla. Makes me wonder(problem with my car?)

The cruze I drive is completely stock. However I am interested in experimenting with a less restrictive air intake as well a straight cat back exhaust. Im curious if I would be able to slightly increase my mpg, at 50mpg even 1 more mpg would be a success. Im not interested in horsepower or noise. Speaking of noise even after 145k miles the interrior still hasnt developed a single rattle, vibration or irritating sound.
I doubt your car has any issues I just drive under ideal conditions at 50mph with very few stops. So you shouldnt really compare your mpg with mine. In a major city and long distance driving on the east coast 44.6 mpg is a win.

Thx what I needed to know. I really don't try to compare. Just makes me wonder at times what is he doing different. I found my car seems to run better completely stock also and even though something makes me not want to admit it(Already bought the "snake oil". I still try things like the K&N and plug gap changing in hope for some miracle "drug". I even bought that group buy tune and I am not using it(not sure why I bought it) peer pressure? Right now I have the K&N in my car and .035 gap and I have @ 100 miles on this tank and I am looking at 40+ on the DIC all highway, so I know it is where I drive. All the cars I have owned(10 new ones), I have never modded them and just drove them till I got bored and bought a different car. I am thinking of calling my dealer to get another stock air filter and going back to the basics I am not a road racer!
FYI I did notice the K&N drop in gives a little more throttle response. When I had an Injen intake, I only installed as SRI. It did OK but was noisy.

I'm glad you see the truth, if there was any MPG mod or tune that could be done for so cheap GM would have already done it to the car from the factory. There are so many variables when it comes to MPG it would be hard to prove or disprove any small changes people see. Honestly the biggest thing is the route and driving style over everything else.
Yesterday It was 88 degrees outside(AC on) when I was driving on some very curvy and hilly back roads. At times there were even mountain like switchbacks, I was having a great time. Looked at the DIC after 29miles, was reading 27mpg. The next 50 miles I was very easy on it and did 55mph most of the time, the DIC was reading 48mpg when I got home. Temperature & terrain was exactly the same only difference was the RPM I was spending most of my time at & how often I was on the gas.

Fabulous numbers.....clearly the engine has not been affected in the least by high mileage travelled.
I cannot imagine any mileage increase could be realized with a low restriction intake or exaust......your operating RPM is generally so low that there really are no airflow restrictions at the intake or exaust side.

When they rated this car for mpg, and came up with 42 on the highway and 28 in town for the eco, which I just bought, what speed are they presuming you drive at? Not 60 I hope. I drive 70 on the highways. Can I expect 42 when I'm not the level and not bucking a wind?
