Must be nice to have commutes that allow that kind of mileage. But I'm happy with the 41-42 I'm getting so far. I'm sure it'll increase a little as the temps warm up and the car breaks in more though. Still under 1500 miles here.

Just glad I go to work early so even in the summer I'll be able to do one half of my daily commute with the AC off.

Side note. Filled up the car last night and recorded 42.8. So 1 mpg better despite a little spirited driving this tank.

Cars have been disengaging the AC clutch for years under higher throttle positions. At least GM vehicles anyway. Across all engine sizes too, not just 4 cylinders.

The lack of power comes when they are gently accelerating. You're not accelerating hard enough so the AC clutch is still engaged. But you'd use even more gas to floor it just so the AC cuts off until you get off the gas.
