New 2017 Cruze LT Owner. Recommended first-step mods?

3196 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Blasirl
I was blown away by the claimed performance numbers by Trifecta. Can anybody recommend a few good bank for your buck initial mods to give this thing a little more fire in it's belly, yet not significantly compromise longevity? (I plan on keeping it for another 4 or 5 years. )

Or is a tune really the best first step one-stop-shop ?

EDIT: subject should have read something like "Recommended first-step mods" LOL! Sounds like I'm looking to modify the lights!

Welcome Aboard!:welcome:

1. Make sure your brakes are good to go
2. Check your plugs and gap
3. Change to High octane fuel
4. Upgrade your fluids
5. add a rear swaybar
6. Get a tune

A tune would give you the most bang right off.
Trifecta and BNR are the 2 tuning Co. That matter. Trifecta is a bit cheaper and you program it via laptop. BNR you'll need an autocal to program and collect your data.
You cillect data send it in and you get a customer tune based on your request
And you can read your cars performance via EfLive software. Trifecta you get the same tune everyone gets if you make mods after the tune BNR will return for free Trifecta will charge for the first and once you go ellite there free also.
I have BNR myself and love it
This will probably start a war as it's like sports teams everyone has their favorite. But after all the serious research I went with BNR.
PM me if you have any questions I have no affiliation with either just a happy owner of a 2018 RS

To clarify: there is no fee for updates. What Alan mentioned is if you buy Advantage tier, which is meant for stock vehicles, and then you want to get support for mods, you'd be asked to upgrade to Elite. So, that shouldn't be described as a fee, but rather, an upgrade to the full support tier ;)

If you go with Elite from the get go, then there are no fees in any way or form for updates, datalogging, revisions, etc. Still comes in cheaper than the other options out there.

What do you mean upgrade all fluids? Is that necessary? Am i safe to just dump in the idiot proof trifecta tune and enjoy? Or am i asking for trouble?
Well, you can do anything you want, but those recommendations are listed in order of most bang for the buck IMO.

What I mean as far as the fluid goes, if you wish, after the free oil changes etc, upgrade to Amsoil or other top rated fluids, including oil, trans fluid, brake/clutch fluid, antifreeze etc. If you read through a number of posted threads you will see the difference a quality fluid will make.

As far as the tune goes, both BNR and Trifecta have been sponsors of this forum for some time and while there is an obvious rivalry, if you follow their instructions and do your due diligence, you should have no issues.

As for the plugs and fuel, if your smart, you will do these prior to getting the tune. Both will in their own right increase performance, and I am pretty sure they are required for most tunes.

The rear sway bar will change the handling of the car dramatically and you will instantly feel the difference. (Yes I know he has a Gen II)

The brakes are a no brainer. Always make sure you can stop before you go!
