Well folks, it's been an interesting last year with my chevy cruze only 23k on the car and I already can't stand it. Has anyone else had an issue with their 2015 chevy cruze leather interior ( drivers and passengers seat) once heated seats are on and it smells horrible like ammonia?

This is my first post on this forum, I mostly only come on to look... but I had to post because I have the SAME issues. Literally when my car has heat on... (I thought it was heat) it smells almost "burnt" especially my heated seats... I bought the car with 22,000 miles on it... and now have 24,000. I will agree the cars are cheaply made but I did only pay $15,000 for it... and mine is a 2LT as well...

Welcome, both of you. I'm sorry to hear you two are having issues with your Cruzes. I personally do not have leather seats in mine so i am not sure of this smell. Hopefully someone else can help you with your issues/concerns.

This is the first I've heard of this issue. The Cruze has had optional Leather seat heaters since introduction so it sounds like something may have changed in 2015.

2012 2LT with electrically heated leather seats, no problem whatsoever. And I swear my wife has a more sensitive nose than our German Shepherd, that these dogs are known for having a sensitive nose 1000 times more sensitive than humans.

Assume that odor is there only when the electric is switched on. Original Windex formula, a dead mouse stuck in there. some faulty materials?

Guess only your dealer can find the problem if you have a good one. Spreading liquid manure that has been stored all winter on an open field really has a very strong ammonia odor. Heating pads are replaceable. Just one or all of them?

I'm just now looking at all your responses. If you turn on the heated seats on high for 30 + minutes, and then you lift your back on the seat back cushioned and introduce air you can smell this horrible smell, like dirty socks. I've had the leather wrap replaced, and I just had the foam replaced and I can still smell this strong foul odor, I'm at a Loss really. There has been 3 covers replaced for my drivers side seat. I'm at a loss because I've had GM come out with their own rep and he couldn't even smell it. The interesting thing is the specialist at the dealership took another 2015 tried the same thing with a brand new car and could smell it. The leather can't breathe

I've had the same smell too but apparently the dealership thinks there's nothing wrong .....

the seat manufacturer is Lear, and when I was looking at their site, they do recycled leather? it's just awful. whatever they did from 2012-2015 they need to go back to 2012 whomever designed the seats then.

My father has a 2012 Chevy Cruze with heated seats and MT and It's very odd to me that I can't smell anything in his seat back but when I unzipped mine WOW it smelled like skunk/ Ammonia dirty socks, just awful. So whatever GM had for seats in 2012 I'd sure as heck love them back in my 2015. I think it's some kind of adhesive in the foam or tanning chemical in the leather that's causing the reaction.

I have 2011 CDX with heated leather. No smell. Maybe previous owners or owners cat had urinated on the seats and it is just heating up the left over ammonia embedded in the cushions?:uhh:

Leather Seating Products | Lear Corporation Below in Red is what I'm concerned about because there's obviously some interaction that is happening with the Foam/leather with the heated seats on high for 30 min. Lift your back and push your back into the seat again and if it's a 2015 I am willing to bet there will be a smell.

In addition to being first-to-market in soil-prevention finishing, recycled composition leather, and low-volatile emission leather, Eagle Ottawa’s clear advantage extends beyond leather processing and design capabilities that differentiate its products for the end consumer.
