I was thinking about upgrading the engine is there one that would run good with a supercharger that will fit good in the car
why?
The engine is 100% set up for its turbo not super charged. You’ll have to customs fab a lot of stuff to make it work, like way more labor then the car may be worth. It may be easier to go bigger turbo and power.

In order to "easily" or even readily be able to supercharge the engine you'd want to swap it over to a 2.0-2.4 from a Verano. Supercharging the 1.4 will require lots of custom work.
So, it can be done. I recently tuned a guys rock crawler that had a motor from a 2nd gen cruze with a supercharger from a mini cooper (it's a roots style SC but mounted to an airbox, then airbox to charge piping through an IC, basically running it like a centrifugal SC). ANYTHING can be done. Custom fab? Oh yeah. Tuning? F***in HOURS of it to get it set up right. Possible? Absolutely. Any time someone says "that won't work", I consider it a challenge, and I love to prove naysayers wrong. Who knows? Maybe you thinking outside the box will get you to come up with a solution, then you release it to the community as a kit? Who knows. But whomever says "the motor is set up for turbo" and "it won't work" is 100% wrong. These are low compression motors, which is fine for a supercharger. Yes, the cam profile is not ideal for a supercharger, but neither is an N/A car's engine, and people supercharge those all of the time. Not to mention I PERSONALLY worked on the tune for that vehicle, and I know for a fact that the ECM has the tables and the ability to operate a supercharge powerplant, regardless of the engine. As long as you have the proper sensors set up in the right order, money, time, and patience, it can be done.

On that note, yeah; you will be much happier and faster getting a big wheel v3 from ZZP and bolting it on with some supporting mods and a tune. That would get you plenty of power, installs in a few hours and you would come in FAR under $2000 with the turbo, injectors, and HP Tuners and some credits. But if you are good with fab and resourceful I have no doubt you could SC that engine with about the same amount of money (many more days of work, mostly hunting down an OEM SC from something, like a mini, and essentially figuring out how to plumb everything and, probably the hardest part and most time consuming, will be tuning. That would likely be the most expensive version.

If you have questions about how we did it, let me know. I may even start a semi-build thread about it but I have to ask him if that's cool, but feel free to ask if you have any questions (do it here, not PM, so others can see it and search for it). I will spill as much knowledge about the problems we ran into when doing it.

ā€œThe motor is set up for turboā€ is 100% correct. The 1.4T was made and designed around turbo applications. Will a super charger EASILY be made to work? No it will take lots of fab work, lots of tuning, time and money. Heck you experienced it. I even said as such myself, I’ll stand by what I said bigger turbo for more power will be easier and more cost effective. In a custom chassis like a rock crawler should be easier but in a production car you may put more into the project then a Cruze is worth. To some may be worth it. To most it’s not.

definitely cool you got it SC vs turbo and on a rock crawler makes way more sense. I also agree ā€œit won’t workā€ is false, just cause it’s very very hard doesn’t mean it’s impossible. It won’t make sense is more reasonable of an answer

What is the goal you are after? Quicker response or more top end etc.

Everyone said that the Honda Civic getting being a racecar made no sense (until it became one of the most popular sport compacts ever to be tuned in ever).... Everyone said why spend all the money to make a SOHC vtec D16Z6 hit a 10s quarter mile, all motor? (to be the first one to do it)... Everyone said, why the hell would you take a Dodge Neon and turbocharge it (Have you ever even driven an srt4? it was the fastest FWD production car at it's time, and set the pace for the other turbocharged cars to come shortly after, like Cobalt SS/TC, Caliber SRT4, a revival of TC FWD compacts.... all because of that one little Neon)..... Because people want to do what they want to do, and naysayers like you actually drive people like me, Jessie (with the rock crawler), and the OP to do something different. Bet you wouldn't be saying that it made no sense if it was on a magazine or was featured in some show.... being different is what modding your car is all about. So, feel free to keep going with the flow and the status quo... Some people like us like to innovate... Just sayin. #micdrop

So none of this has any bearing mechanically. This engine was a turbo engine designed from day one hence its way easier and cheaper to upgrade it turbo wise vs making a while bunch of custom stuff to SC it. Lol dude I know of the srt4 I have a 86 Daytona turbo Z CS with the 2.5 turbo T2 intercooler in the drive way. A turbo 4 from dodge the predecessor to the srt4. Also the T3 16v in the spirit rt and the Daytona rt(phantom RT in Mexico as well but known as the laberon in USA) was pushing big turbo numbers before the neon chassis was even in production. It used a lotus design 16v head. The K platform turbos is what started the boosted American 4 cyl in America not the srt4. Innovative no long way around yes. It’s a lot more trouble then it’s worth and it’s gonna be a hard and expensive task. This is why we are telling you as such, so you don’t get 1/4 of the way in and then decide it’s not worth it and swear off the project. Custom CNC work is not cheap nor is the tuning one off for that set up. Mic drop..childish.

Who cares what it was made for? Don't mind your cruze then. It's an ego gas car. What about boosting a car that came stock NA? No cars come with nitrous except the a particular focus, so never throw a bottle in a car. Trucks weren't meant to be 15 ft tall. An f150 wasn't meant to be a monster truck. A tooth brush wasn't invented to stab people but it happens in prison. The electric motor was not invented to run a vacuum cleaner. Any car that has an LS swap that didn't come stock with one wasn't meant to have that motor. See where I'm going? Just because something was not meant for a certain thing doesn't mean it cannot be used as such. What is especially different about this engine as opposed to any other that makes it specifically set up for ONLY turbos besides the cam profile? It has the fuel system, rods, pistons, compression ratio and all of the other requisite things that make it happy with forced induction.... And besides if all you are going to do is talk down to the op and shoot down their idea, then might be better to not say anything at all. You know this engine was also "set up" to only use the oem turbo right? Are you against changing out the stock one for a custom manifold and turbo like I'm doing it even get a zzp or bnr upgrade? The stock manifold has to be machined out for BNRs turbo upgrade.... Because it wasn't set up for a bigger one from the factory. Your logic fails to hold water and your naysaying ways literally contribute nothing. If people didn't try stuff with things that weren't made to do it, we would have no aftermarket parts for any car. Again I point to cars that are NA from the factory and aftermarket turbo and supercharger kits... Please address how that is any different than what this dude has an idea to do. The world holds it's breath. Like how do YOU innovate at all in any aspect of you are afraid to go outside of the box so much that you tell others not to.... Especially when I have PERSONALLY SEEN AND WORKED ON a project doing exactly what he is talking about. Doesn't matter if it's in a rock crawler. People throw car engines in off road vehicles all the time. Would you tell them not to do it only out in off road engines? **** I just get irked when people can't just say nothing at all if they have no constructive input. Lol

Dude you talk way too **** much and say little. We aren’t talking anyone down we are telling them it’s possible with lots of work. To the point it’s not worth the projects value and basically similar results can be had for less and easier. I’ve not said it’s impossible I simply state the truth that SC this already turbo engine will be going the long and expensive route to be ready for it. Feel free to get irked, many times I’ve tried projects once told the negatives and a better alternative, it changed my plans.
