All the diesels I work with average 33 mpg to 38 mpg. Before I messed with them that is.

Sooooo don't feel too bad. I'm not really sure how people on here get ludicrous numbers like 55 mpg without really changing anything. Maybe, just maybe, if you had a long stretch of road going 55 mph you can do it, but otherwise you are SOL.
I didn't think South Dakota had large enough cities to drag overall MPG down this far. I know from experience that my ECO MT is a 55 MPG car at 55 MPH and the EPA rating of 42 MPG is at 77 MPH. The CTD has a 4 MPG improvement on the highway so it should do better than my ECO MT. City driving will drag the CTD's MPG way down - rated 27 MPG City. A combined 33 MPG would be an average speed in the low 30 MPH range.

My CTD lifetime average is a hair over 40 MPG. Mostly highway driving, but at least 15% stop and go, traffic and hard acceleration.

Two tanks ago was 100% city (some stop and go), and it was 31.67.

Lifetime average is 38.6 with a pretty even split between city and highway.

80 mph speed limits will do that ;)

My lifetime average over 13700 miles is 41.9 mpg its on fully for 2015 CTD. The summer dropped mine a little with city and ac use. I enjoy driving the CTD hard on occasion, at least couple times a week. Ok little more.

Is is it possible the op is regen in really short intervals?

Don't think so - I have the Scangauge II (Great! Just love it! This is something all CTD owners should have.) and usually there is about 200 or more miles between regens.

I have one as well. Not sure I love it, but glad you do. I get frustrated when short regen, sometimes it makes little sense, :dizzy:

this cycle it's doing well on regen, who knows why.

I feel the need for speed :th_coolio: Sounds to me like I need to make a road trip to SD and open her up.

SD has one of the most beautiful sights in the country, I took a picture when I was there.

That would definitely cut down on my fuel economy. :)
When you're traveling 1,400 miles one way towing a trailer, fuel economy is the least important thing haha.

Understood. On my three trips from Denver to New Hampshire that I've made in my ECO MT "fuel economy" has been at the bottom of my trip criteria. I just let the car do what it can for me and don't worry about it.

Agreed. As a side note, the redesigned sierra 1500 DI 5.3L 6-speed gets 11.7 mpg towing a 5,300 pound enclosed trailer/wind anchor and loaded with people and their luggage at 70-80 mph. I was shocked to be in double digit economy.

Also, when descending put your car into metric and make sure the instant fuel consumption readout drops to 0.0 L/100 KM. This will verify your car is going into DFCO properly.
Did this on the way home yesterday - worked as expected. (And going down the mountain raised my average for this tank to 34.)

OK - next test. On a relatively flat stretch of highway (rolling hills are ok as long as up and down are roughly equal) reset one of your trip odometers and watch the average MPG vs. average speed. Report distance, speed, and mpg numbers in both directions on this stretch of road please. What I'm looking for here is to see if your car is performing properly on the highway.

You have something very wrong. I am going on a 200 mile trip, 85% highway today and the temps are cooling down here so no AC to use or very little and I expect to get 50 mpg plus and interstate speeds of 70 mph. I have never had a tank of 34 mpg, if I drove 100% city driving stop and go and heavy AC I night get little less than that. I took a trip to New Jersey in May and the weather was cool and went over 800 mile on a tank and could have made it to 900 no problem. A gas regular Cruze would get the mileage you are getting.

I'm somewhat disappointed with my economy as well. Average speed is 41-42 and mileage is 38+. City driving really drags that economy down. I got better mileage in my ECO due to the manual trans. I know the delete and downpipe tune Fleece is expensive and will never pay for itself, but I'm strongly considering it now.

Ok... Shall I set cruise control? I think there is a (mostly) flatish stretch on the way to Winston-Salem. I should be able to do this Sunday.

I wonder if your mods, especially the 19 inch tires had an impact of fuel economy? I would guess it could have. Made a trip yesterday from Indy area to Fort Wayne and got 52 mpg on way up and then economy dropped on way home to 47 with a strong cross wind. My car is bone stock other than tint. Interesting as well, my last regen was 89 miles, this tank I am at 350 miles and at 20 grams and been very slow since I got fuel. I wonder if my car has winter fuel or if lower temps outside give me more miles per regen? Dramatic difference.
