NYCruze2012 was wrecked but I'm still here!

Hey all,
I'm sure as most of you know by now my Cruze was wrecked back in the end of August. I'm still here although I no longer own a Cruze Eco. I spent 2 months trying to decide on whether or not I wanted a new Gen 2 Cruze which meant bank payments or just to purchase a used car as a commuter car. I was in no rush as I drove my Suburban until I made a decision. Anyway I ended up buying an 2013 Impala LTZ with leather, nav, and the Bose sound system for $10K. It was a Chevy certified pre-owned with 50,000 miles on it still under the 6yr/100K power train warranty and came with a 12month/12,000mile bumper to bumper warranty. It has the 3.6L V6 vvt direct injection motor in it supposedly rated at 300hp. I like the fact that I was able to pay cash for it and have no payments. We have 1 yr of payments left on my wifes 12 Sonic hatchback which is good because we are replacing our Suburban Z71 after 15 yrs of faithful service with a much newer one next year and thats going to be a heavy expense.
Anyway this is what happened for those of you who didnt know. I was on my home from work which is a 75 mile drive one way. I was only 2 exits on I-84 eastbound from my home at 3am when a tractor trailer decide he wanted to occupy the same lane I was in which was the far right lane of a 3 lane interstate. All I know is that he hit me and sent me into a spin, I hit him again, and my car skidded to a stop in the center lane in the complete darkness. Onstar called me right away to say they detected and crash and asked if I was ok. I told them yes but I had to evacuate the car immediately as I had more traffic approaching me quickly. I ran to the shoulder and watched the entire left side of my car get pummeled by 2 more cars that couldnt see me in the dark. Thankfully this was in front of a rest area and several witnesses told the NYS troopers that they saw the tractor trailer hit me and that he caused the accident and just kept going and never returned to the accident scene. That was good because I was kind of in a state of shock because everything happened so quickly and I had no clue what just happened other than my car was wrecked. I was also completely unharmed and unhurt in any way. I was wearing my seatbelt but the airbags never deployed. As a friend and a fellow forum member I ask you ALL to please always wear your seatbelts! Our Cruzes can be replaced, you all are irreplaceable!

I kinda remember this in the Fb group, I just suck at matching up faces to usernames. 13 Impala is what I was originally up for but they sold out and was fully stocked with $30k-$45K new gen ones.

Hey Merc6 I did post about it on the FB group after it happened. The reason I never posted in the CT forum was that I had password problems logging in here and finally resolved them this morning.

Yeah this weekend was one of the worst ones. Hopefully they get it working more like the other AG forums where it's not NSA proof.

I'm driving an Impala today while my Cruze is in for repairs, they're good cars. Fast as heck too.

Glad you got out of there safely, especially before those two cars hit you.
I originally went from an Impala to a Cruze. Loved the power of my Impala, but love the gas mileage of my Cruze. It's a trade-off. Gotta say though, this new 2017 launches pretty good when I need it to, compared to my 2012.

Good thing you got out when you did! Some of those truck drivers are real jagoffs. My Cruze almost got hit in the same area coming back from Detroit. The truck driver moved over real fast without looking. Luckily I was paying attention and slowed down. Hope you like your Impala!
As much as I like this Impala the fuel mileage sucks. I have never gotten over 25 miles per gallon as opposed to the Cruze Eco which typically I got between 46 and 47 miles to the gallon regularly. I knew this going into it when I bought it so I suppose I shouldn't complain.
I'm glad you're ok. The car is replacable - you're not.

The old 3.5L one I had as a rental would do 30 hwy pretty easily. Had a lot of torque, but otherwise a meh powertrain compared to the 300 HP 3.6.

1st gear shifted at 60 mph flat to the floor!

Let me tell you this 3.6L direct injection engine has it's little quirks. I'm not fond of the pcv system gases being burned off through the throttle body. Over time small amounts of oil have a tendency to pool up in the intake hose and also pollute the intake manifold. For this I tapped in a oil catch can. The tops of the valves getting all coked up is unavoidable but by that time it's too severe and causes engine problems I would have gotten rid of the car anyway and been on to my next car.
Fred, So glad you were OK and that your Cruze protected you through the wreck.

Thank you so much! I had my seatbelt on and my Cruze did its job and protected me from any harm. For that I am greatful!
So it was totaled just from that fender damage??

The right front wheel was pushed all the way into the firewall which was bent as well as the A-pillar being bent as well. What's not pictured is the damage sustained on the driver's side of the car from it being sideswiped by two other cars that couldn't stop before they hit it.
