I've noticed maybe 5 times in the year I've owned my car it will seemingly lose all turbo boost while I'm driving it. Usually happens on hotter days at highway speeds, but it's happened on cooler days as well. My boost gauge on the torque app shows 3psi at full throttle, making it very hard for the car to maintain freeway speeds let alone pass or merge. Stopping the car and turning it off then back on resolves the issue.

What at causes this? Should I be concerned? The car is a 2014 1.4 with a trifecta tune and intake resonator delete.

Reflash back to the stock tune to troubleshoot. I really don't think it's the Tune but this is the only way you'll be sure.

I experienced this Monday and today for the first time. It was really hot out on Monday and assumed heatsoak retarded the timing (loss of power). I got the scanner out and on Tuesday I didn't have an issue, at one point the IAT2 temp hit 145F, but I was able to get full boost with a ton of retard of course. Today the no boost thing happened again coming home, really hot out on the way home from work (but only like 110F on the IAT2, A/C off). It would only peak at about 5 psi boost. My scanner was jacked up and commanded boost wasn't working, but didn't see anything crazy in the other sensors I am watching. I'll keep playing with it.

Probably thinks it's overboosting (a spike above a set limit will set it in limp mode)

There has been wastegate pin issues that get bad enough to set a code. That's the only problem with the turbo that I've seen in the forum (besides total failure.)

Hmmmm, was there a reflash to change that code?

I drove my car last Friday. I was monitoring commanded boost, it was for sure commanding 4psi when I was experiencing low boost. It was all over the place though, sometimes it would let me get full boost in 1st gear, 2nd it would limit boost to 4psi. It wasn't very consistent, it would sometimes command 4 psi with the pedal to floor while cruising, then it jumps to full boost (command and actual) without moving my foot.

I was watching the IAT2 temps, I thought for a second it would only happen at >125F and then I thought it would give me full boost at 124F, but at 124F it still did the low boost, so I am not sure what is forcing this low boost mode. I am pretty sure I was in my unlimited torque command range of the rpm, where a lower maximum torque under torque management could reduce boost so I think this is ruled out. I can try unlimited torque for all rpm ranges to make sure...

The Cruze is a torque managed system. Boost will only be requested by the ECU if needed to provide the requested torque. Can you monitor requested torque along with boost?

Yes I will monitor this.

This was happening on my journey home from work, I was running the A/C which is probably why it gets so hot because part of my commute goes through town so airflow is reduced and once this car heat soaks there is no reversing it. I have been purposefully not running the A/C on my commutes home, in 90+F weather, I have not been having reduced boost issues over several commutes lately.

I think I will now run the A/C again tonight on the commute home and see if I get reduced boost after the stop/go session where I note this issue; my tuner is shared with my other car, so I don't have it hooked up right now though. The theory regarding running the A/C is to accelerate the heat soak, as the A/C condenser is inputting a ton of heat into the engine bay.

This happens to me now and then. When I first got my 2014 cruze, I was using cruise control a lot to save gas. I recall it happened a few times then. I tuned it, and it did not happen again that I recall. This year, I tuned to stock for my 2 year checkup. Lately I have been using the cruise control a lot to save gas again, and it has happened a couple of times lately. Coincidence?

I was just on the point of posting something about this before I found this thread.

My car is a 2014 LT, 1.4 with standard transmission. I was using the car to commute roughly 200 miles a day when I first bought it. I noticed that this same thing would happen occasionally. It usually happens at highway speeds on hot days. Most of the time, my cruise control was set and I wouldn't even notice the issues until I was down shifting and trying to make a pass.

There are no engine lights or warnings of any kind, and a simple off and on again reset will clear it up. I've since stopped commuting so much and it hasn't been happening as much, but it does still happen on occasion.

FWIW, The car is bone stock. No mods or tune of any kind. Hoping some others have a little more insight into what's going on here.

Just follow up here, I went 2 super hot commutes home with A/C blasting and did not get a low boost condition. So my theory about extra heat soak is not looking good.

I finally got my first CEL!!! It is the code of turbo death: P0299

The issue is still intermittent, I am still able to get full boost 99% of the time I am driving.

My plan is to pull the down pipe and inspect for the crack at the wastegate port. If it's cracked than most likely I'll get it warrantied. If it's not cracked, I'm going to crack a beer and then wrap my down pipe.

Sorry to Necro an old thread!

Hi, I had a lot of stuttering under boost before finally getting the p0299 code. I replaced the turbo with an Oem substitute but now am having the same issue you mentioned where the turbo is literally blowing air with no boost. Where you able to solve this problem?

I preloaded my waste gate and noticed it happening a lot, I gave it a few extra turns to increase the boost but i think that it went to far

you guys are most likely overboosting and going into limp mode. My car does it if i leave it to the floor past a certain RPM in 3rd and 4th.

Mine does this in 4th gear if I lock it into forth via manual mode and put it to the floor to get on the freeway. I goes good for a few seconds and then I get 50% throttle, as displayed by torque pro, low boost but no codes. I am thinking it is the start of the end for the turbo and may be a wastegate issue.
