No, didn’t touch anything with the radiator. I’ll give that a try and report back.

I’m no expert but I think the leak quite obviously was my main problem - only seemed to start getting hot once I got low. Your suggestion makes sense. It would seem odd that I’ve suddenly developed another problem unless I damaged something with it overheating twice but I was quick to cut the heat on and pull over and turn the engine off both times. With the leak fixed is now where I’m seeing more frequent fluctuation in the temp. Or at least that’s what I saw today with the longer drive.
Let us know your findings.

Any steam out the tailpipe? Exhaust smell sweet? If not, you’re probably ok head gasket wise.
