Ok so I got the dreaded P0171 code Engine too lean bank 1.

I already bought a valve cover a few months ago anticipating this would happen. I only need to hop down to the store and get some RTV sealant, then I have everything I need to do it.

Problem is tomorrow I have an important appointment. Should I do this today or day after tomorrow? Can I drive the car the way it is? Other than bad fuel economy, nothing that bad will happen right? I mean it's drive able, just not optimal right now. I'm worried if I attempt this repair and something goes wrong, I will be without a car to make it to that appointment. I will have to drive it about 40 miles each way, so a total of 80 miles to that appointment and back.

Thanks everyone!

You can drive with this code set, just don't expect normal performance. I drove nearly 100 miles with a P0171 set before I could get it fixed.

I have the P0171 code also .
I replaced the intake manifold and valve cover last spring .
that did clear up the leaking sound at valve cover but not the code.

I just replaced the o2 sensor now and the code could not be cleared ??
says running lean ,,, and could be the turbo compressor seal ???
or could the intake and valve cover need re-torqued ?
