Installed a new cam position sensor, car fired right up and was running correctly. Still had CEL so I cleared it with my scanner and instantly lost my tach signal again and running rough again. Do I need to just let the car clear its own CEL when this happens?

I find it advisable to not have the engine running when clearing codes, and to let the controller go to sleep afterwards before trying a restart. But the MIL will indeed clear itself after a few key cycles once proper operation is restored and the diagnostics have had time to pass.

Did you make sure there's nothing wrong with the harness? Intermittent continuity can cause that code.

Did you get your new sensor from a GM dealer? I'd be disinclined to use aftermarket.
