First I want to show my appreciation for this forum. I've been utilizing cruzetalk over the years for previous issues, but this time I needed to actually register an account, so I can ask for help.

About 2 months ago, the CEL came on in my 2016 Limited LS (1.8L) and before I could go get it read, it went off on its own. I figured whatever the issue was, had resolved itself. This happened for a 2nd time about 2 weeks later, but it again went off on its own. At that time I didn't notice anything going on. Fast forward to about a week ago, and the CEL came back on and stayed on. Had it scanned at autozone and was told it wasn't showing any codes, something along the lines of no known solutions. Was advised to take a look at general maintenance things (oil change, air filter, fluids, spark plugs, etc). I'm right around 85,000 miles and was due for a oil change so I had that done. Checked the coolant, which I was already expecting to be little low and topped it off. We have some long cold winters here in Buffalo, so that wasn't out of the ordinary.

The next morning I noticed the idle was jumping around a bit while at stopped at a light. While sitting in park on my break at work, it sputtered as if it were running out of gas and stalled out, after only being on for a minute or two. It turned over a little rough but did start back up right away. On my way home that night, at the first light it tried to do this again, but I switched into neutral and was able to keep it from stalling. Over the past week this has happened intermittently, but only when the engine is cold.

A buddy recommended changing the air filter and running some Lukus with my gas. Had autozone scan it again while I was there and this time it read CEL codes : P0300, P0011, P0171, P0496

"Most likely solution" replace MAF sensor.
After a few hours of reading through past posts, I saw that this seems to be another of the unfortunate common issues we face as cruze owners. I know that there is a bunch of things I can troubleshoot/replace that could help resolve the issue, I just don't know where to start.

I plan on running that Lukus with a fresh tank of gas later tonight and bought that air filter which I'll probably change tomorrow. I figured before I did that, it would be smart to post here for advice on what my next steps should be. I'm pretty new to working on my car myself, but I have been more than capable of handling the few DIY projects I have tried.

The last thing I want to do is hand it over to a shop and be charged money I don't have, to do things I could have done myself. I plan on getting a OBD scanner this week, because I know that is going to be pretty much necessary to figure out what exactly is going on. Can someone recommend a good one to buy?

If anyone can please help me figure out where to start, I would be forever grateful!

Your opening is so true, cruzetalk is a car saver!
I have been using the Torque Pro app with an obd2 plug to realtime monitor and troubleshoot. Really cheap and effective. An older android phone on my dash as needed is dedicated to that purpose. $5 for app, $35 for bluetooth obd2.

I stopped to fill my tank this morning and put in the Lukus cleaner. Went to leave and it stalled immediately. It turned over after a couple attempts + giving it a little gas, and it ran fine the rest of the way to work. It's supposed to snow later and will probably only be 20° when I get out, so I am gonna let the engine get nice and warm before I head back home.

I ended up finding a good deal on Amazon for the obd scanner. It should be delivered by the time I'm home from work tomorrow and will clear the codes, then scan it again. I will post the results here afterwards. I'm off all day Saturday, so depending on what comes up, I should be able to start going through some troubleshooting.

After a few days of reviewing posts of people who have had similar issues, I am pretty sure I have a long road ahead of me. I'm trying to stay optimistic about it though. Gonna take it one step at a time.

That's awesome! I'm glad that worked out for you and hopefully I have similar luck! Did you have any other codes come up, or was it just the P0496?

Does anyone know if a faulty Purge Valve could cause the other codes to show as well?

So I found a couple others instances that had similar symptoms and were getting multiple codes, including P0011, P0171, P0496. Changing the purge valve also resolved their problems.

Should have the part in a couple of days and have my fingers crossed that it works. Either way thank you for helping me get on the right path.

To me, those are an odd set of codes. Erase them and look for the first one to pop.
My obd scanner was delivered today and I'm gonna hook it up as soon as I'm home from work

Scanner came in and works great.

Confirmed that it was still showing just the 4 before

Cleared the codes

Drove about a mile before MIL came back

Only code that came back was P0171...

I ordered the purge valve which will be here early next week.

Is there anything that I can inspect or test while I am waiting?

I scanned it again last night and P0496 came back, along with P0171. This gives me hope that changing the Purge valve will fix the problem.

I also ran diagnostics
Font Material property Parallel Rectangle Number

I'm looking to see what a normal range of the diagnostics should be to compare.

The Purge valve is supposed to come in to say and I'm off from work so hoping that I can go to sleep tonight, with one less thing on my plate.

Also would like to note i didnt even know that the purge valve was the problem i hadnt obd scanned it and went straight to the internet (which is silly i know but i got pretty darn lucky!) and started reading and researching about the purge valve causing all of these problems and after i replaced it about 2 weeks ago the check engine light was still on and after like 6 days it went away on its own.
