i bought my eco april 25th with 42 miles on it, it's a 2012 metallic silver and love it but am having an issue that i can't seem to get diagnosed by the dealer. the problem is that when i am coming to a stop off the freeway (mainly) my volts drop to 11 volts and all my electronic parts start to act up, the lights go dim, my gauges cycle like when you turn it on, and my radio goes full blast, then it goes back to normal after a minute. i took the car to the dealership and they told me they have heard of no such problems like this, has anyone had this issue? (the car is the way it was when i bought it, have not done anything to it yet)

Not this issue with my Cruze, yet. First the alternator should be tested for full output current, the a capacity on the battery, if good and about three minutes used up. The next thing to check is for loose battery connections and how these cables are terminated. Lets say a total of ten minutes.

Ignition switch in the Cruze is not a real switch at all, but commands the BCM to start things rolling. Sounds like a complete power failure, intermitent, just one loose nut would cause that. The BCM experiencing a complete power failure resets when the voltage is reapplied and resets the BCM to start from scratch.

Intermittent problems turn into permanent problems, sooner or later, your car will be completely dead and may leave you stranded.

Your dealer never heard of this? How long as he been in business? Five minutes?

i live in salt lake, ut and the dealer is larry h miller chevrolet, so far i can't find anyone there that knows anything about this car, they said they tested everything and found nothing wrong with it, when i asked about the charging system they said that it was normal. i figure they can fix it when it does die i just hope it doesn't create more issues. but another question for anyone is how much gas does the eco hold? they can't tell me that cause they said they have no specs on the car which makes no sense. thanks for the answer i will keep an eye on it

Did this voltage failure only occur once or is it repetitive? On my 2LT, the USB connector wasn't plugged all the way in, could be some other connector with the same problem making erratic contact.

2LT fuel tank capacity is 15.6 gallons, guys that have the Eco claim its the same fuel tank. But with some kind of restrictor in the filler so you can only put in 12.6 gallons. But some claim if you are patient enough, can put in the full extra three gallons. Maybe one of them will reply.

This information on the Cruze is all over the net. Was searching stuff like that before I purchased mine, that is how I found this board.

Really!!!! I'd say it's time to find a new dealer service department. If they are that ignorant of the Cruze, they are unfit to service it. Either they don't care or don't know. Either way, I would not want them to lay a finger on my car, regardless of what it cost.

NOPE!

I can not put an extra "3 Gallons". The narrow fuel fill makes it hard to even get to 12 gallons. I have to be patient just to fill it up all the way. If I let the tank click off at normal, its 87% full. I can put in an extra gallon to make it around 13. I had my tank taken out of my car and everything... Dealership found nothing wrong besides the design flaw which sometimes won't even allow you to still fill it up. Just the way its designed and such. I normally put in 10-11 gallons when my car starts dinging at me for low fuel.

For us 2LT guys with a 15.6 gallon tank, you are getting a zillion miles more per gallon in fuel economy because you are carrying three gallons less. A small price to pay.

Ha, now that summer is here, getting lots of exercise and took off ten pounds, but that doesn't make a difference. With my 2LT with a full tank, only get 10 mpg, but as soon as my fuel used gauge hits 3.0, that is when my average jumps to over 40. LOL

On a more serious note, never let my tank drop below a quarter, dang fuel pump needs to be submersed in fuel to cool it. Otherwise it runs red hot and doesn't last as long.

Long debate I had with someone over this issue. The fuel pump is internally, not externally cooled. The external cooling would account for at best 5%-10% of its cooling capacity. Instead, it relies on the fuel being sucked in to cool it as many pumps do.

A dismantling of said fuel pump would show that the outer casing is not in any consequential degree in contact with any of the internal parts, let alone the ones that need cooling.

But I digress. As I've recommended to everyone who has a problem here, contact GM first and have them deal with the dealership on your behalf. If you can, get a video of this behavior to prove it. This will allow GM to intervene on your behalf so you don't have to, and if necessary, find you a more competent dealer to service your car. This also reports your problem so that should anyone else also have the problem, it will be another hash mark on the priority list for the engineers to investigate and hopefully release a service bulletin for.

ausi420,
I understand that dealing with these issues can be frustrating. I would like to look into this for you. Can you please send me a PM with your contact information, VIN, current mileage and your dealership? I look forward to hearing back from you.
Thank you,
