Common problem if you drive in snow or a lot of rain.

The module and its wiring harness are exposed to the elements. You can try cleaning and repacking the connector with dielectric grease.

Myself, I've had both modules replaced after three winters. It was done at no cost under my GMPP.

Unfortunately replacement isn't just plug and play as the module needs to be programmed to the car requiring access to the software from GM.

The module is located in the back bumper fascia - right about where the rear wheels throw up the slush and stuff.

It probably still catches stuff from wet roads. Depending on distance from the ocean, might get some sea salt up there too. It would certainly get whatever is lying on the roadway.
