Just installed an H6 battery in the GEN 1 1.4L car. I had problems getting the top battery support, the one that hooks in on one side, and screws down with the 10mm bolt to sit flat and hook in.

It appears that the loop portion of the support is physically attached to the side of the battery and doesn't move. I had the automatic transmission lines replaced last winter, and I know the mechanic had the computer off it's support, and the battery tray out.

In the picture I have just one side of the top support screwed down, I don't have it clipped on the passenger side of the battery box. Any suggestions? Battery is sitting on the bottom of the box. Did I just get a battery that maybe a little too high?

Both old and new batteries are 7.5" tall. The GEN1 takes an H5 from the factory. I decided to install an H6 because the battery tray was long enough. Unlike the videos on you tube the H6 has two carrying handles, unlike the H5.

The only thing I can think of is either the battery is not sitting all the way at the bottom of the tray. But when I look with lights it seems like it is. And the metal piece that removes from the front of the battery tray fits as it should. So I really don't think the battery is sitting too high. Since the bracket goes across two of the handles, rather than a smooth top battery that might have something to do with it. I think the battery tray is smooth at the bottom, you don't have to get the battery "under" any retainers that are molded into the battery tray. It's too cold out now to deal with. Unless I have to pull the battery for other reasons, it will stay this way until it warms up. Significantly below 0F in an unheated garage sucks.

How is the computer installed on that bracket? I know there's 4 bolts holding the computer to the backplate, but if the backplate of the computer is somehow attached to this battery support that might be the problem. Did the previous tech slide the computer and backplate off the battery box? I think he may have, yet I don't understand the clip mechanism and how to release it.

The tech that had replaced the automatic cooler lines, had all that apart.

The 2's are in the trunk. I'd have to look again but don't remember any of the computers being mounted to the battery.

I wish the battery was still in the under the hood. I"m not understanding the logic of mounting in the trunk and all that extra wiring needed to get from the back to the front. I bet the starter motor cables are 20 miles long.

The GEN 2 in the trunk is for a few reasons. I believe the start stop system is running off the AGM battery plus a capacitor that is charged by the battery, and quickly discharges to the starter. This is how they get such instant restarts.. Trunk is cooler, and provides more space for these start/stop components.
