Rams and Cams

3602 Views 14 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  [email protected]
Hey all, new to the forums and I've been browsing quite a bit. I'm looking to put performance internals in my engine. So far I've found injectors, pistons, and a fuel pump but now I'm looking for camshafts and rams. Can you guys help point me in the right direction? I'm looking for maximum performance. I don't care about economy or practicality. The best parts. Thanks in advance.

Also, I've tried to use the search function. Nothing pops up.

Interesting question, so far there is no aftermarket cams. Considering its easier to move more boost into the engine then trying to get more lift on the cams. which is already aggressive.

I did Vtuner pistons and valve springs, turbo upgrade. im at ~200 whp on stock injectors + watermeth. Im looking to upgrade my fuel system and find a tune to go with it so i can use my 3.3 bar map sensor.
Welcome to the forum!

There's only so much power you can squeeze from an engine that only has 1,364cc displacement. BNR offers a tune and turbo upgrade that helps extract more power. Keep us posted on your efforts, especially if you get the chance to put it on a dyno, I'd love to see what kind of numbers are possible!

You can always get a junkyard set reground or made specifically for you

Displacement isn't as much as a limiting factor, as the components in the motor and how stout the motor is. Audi's 1.8L has pushed out over 1200hp. For the Gen 1 motors we don't how much the bottom end can stand up to. The Gen2, Trifecta has already pushed almost 200whp and 200ft-lbs of torque out of it. I think these little motor are stout.

Update: I already am running a K&N Typhoon series intake with a muffler and resonator delete. My next step is to do the fuel pump, injectors, valve springs (all 16 of them), and pistons. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find any aftermarket cams or rams :( I plan to go with Vermont Tuning and Brian there has been really helpful so far. Any suggestions for a fuel pump and injectors? I'm trying to avoid less than great quality parts.

I'll keep you all posted as I continue to throw money at my car!

i had an article by a race team working for gm that where told to push the 1.6 as far as it could possibly go. they ran into block warping issues head lift, many many issues every extra 100hp or so. they made it to 900 somthing but they basically proved these eco blocks arent gonna hold power well and dont take it either
Well, I have the 1.4. After the internals, I was gonna do the manifold, turbo, and meth/water injection. Eventually I will go the E85, but there's not many places around here that sell it. I hate Maryland.
Also, found a fuel pump and injectors. Wanna run them by you guys first. I'm really new to the mechanical world.

If you want to make power from a 1.4T, BNR is the place to go. We've beat every single record out there

After browsing your catalog, I'm noticing that a few parts have identical features and specs, but are listed higher. Additionally, I don't see any intake manifolds or a meth/water injection kit. I do like how you actually have mid and downpipes that fit the 1.4T, but my real question is:

What makes BNR better than VTuning? I've already been talking to VTuning and before I switch to someone else, I want to know why they're better. I look forward to your reply.
A lot of our parts are better quality, like our valve springs, pistons, etc. I don't sell ported intake manifolds because I don't see it as a limiter if you don't do it. Our GTX turbo makes WAY more power than comperable turbos and is a brand new turbo, we don't start with a used/busted core like the other guys do. I don't sell water/meth because I think E85 is a much better choice. It's safer and more reliable than meth injection. The only reason to go meth is if you don't have E85 near you.

BNR tunes are the most powerful, most custom tunes you can buy for these. We've had a ton of people switch to us from other tuners and never look back. Plus with BNR its $550 one time and you get unlimited retunes as long as you own the car. Everyone else, VTuner included, charges $125+ per retune.
Also FYI the forums are mostly dead compared to the CT facebook group. Might want to ask around on there.

I only have one E85 station near me and its a half hour drive. I do run premium octane though. I can send an email through your website so we can discuss this further and I am on a limited budget as I have some credit cards I need to pay off (family emergencies aren't cheap). I also am in Maryland and registered here as well, so I'd need some feedback so I can stay "in compliance" for emissions testing when I go to do the mid and downpipes.
