RE: TSB PI0645, why new Springs?
Has anyone who has brought their car in for the following TSB know why the springs had to be replaced along with the struts?
Official TSB PI0645: Knock or pop noise heard when coming to a stop or at low speeds over small bumps - Jan 10, 2012.
Models:
2012 Buick Verano built prior to VIN breakpoint C4141115
2012 Chevrolet Cruze built prior to VIN breakpoint C7239134
I ask, because I just brought my '11 Eco in with similiar symptoms, and they replaced the struts, bumpers, and spring insulators only. The dealer referred to a different bulletin, one that called for retaining the original springs. Now, although the noise is gone, I think my ride height is a bit lower, and I wonder if I should have had the springs replaced as per TSB PI0645 in order to retain stock ride height with the new struts.
Below is the bulletin as shown on my invoice. The detailed version makes no mention at all of any need to replace the springs.
PSB#12-03-08-001: Clunk or Thump Type Noise from Front Suspension.
Anybody know why PSB PI0645 calls for the springs to be replaced along with the struts? Also, has it been confirmed that TSB PI0645 applies to the 2011's as well as early '12's that fall under the VIN breakpoint.?
Oh, and I envy everyone who went to Lordstown. I've toured the Ford plant here (now being demolished) and watched Rangers being built, but that's nothing compared to getting to see where the Cruze is made.
