Hello everyone. So I was doing some research on rear conversion to disc brakes and wanted to see what everyone thought. I've read through all the forums and everyone's opinion was the same, NOT WORTH IT. Although it will not affect most driving situations, well ventilated disc brakes will change a lot when at the track. I have a 2012 cruze RS with drums in the back. Standing on Yokahama Advant neo sport tires, suspension upgrades, trifecta tune, exhaust, pretty much the works as far as power and handling but now its time for brakes. I've had multiple times after about five turns where my brakes begin to fade..... really not ideal for the track. I know that the brake conversion to new parts is expensive and people don't want to invest that much time or money but I'm willing to try.
My idea was to look for a wrecked Cruze 2LT (or any model) with rear discs. My thoughts were this, go to a junk or scrap yard and take the entire rear hub assembly, including mounting brackets to the rear control arm off both sides and installing them on my car instead of the drum assembly. Has anyone thought about doing this? I've looked at most conversion posts and really haven't seen much about simply finding a Cruze that does have it and converting. I mean as far as installation and money its probably the easiest and cheapest option I could think of with factory GM parts.
Any foreseen problems with this like bolts? Parking brake, etc? If you have negative criticism about disc in general, skip over the post. Just looking for opinions and if any bolt alignment or previous knowledge any member has may help in my en-devours. The only real concern I see with this is the hydraulic line, parking brake cable and the hub mount bolts if they are in a different pattern?
Thanks in advance!
P.S. 100% will be documenting for anyone who wishes to try as well!
