Recalls afet recalls, issues after issues....brakes still not working

Hi,

So we bought this 2011 Eco cruze new......4.5 years later (driven regularly for 4) and at about 105,000 miles or so (out of warranty now)
After doing all the recalls over that time and fixing numerous smaller things....
I decide to loan the car to my in-laws for a few months while my reservist husband is in deployment..... thinking of helping them out, giving them a favor while they are visiting from out of state.

In the first month.... they get the car checked (just to make sure all is ok since they are driving their baby boy (who is nothing short from a miracle, being alive and well when being born at 23 weeks and 5 days) anyway.... brake pads were low and one of the rotor had to be changed.....ok, it's basic maintenance... changing the brake and the rotor that needed it, oil change.
The following week...... they loose braking power.....change the vaccum switch thing and the other part that goes with it (I don't remember the name).... car's computer is replaced as well following the latest recall
The following week..... issues with the transmission.... replace 2 components.....
Then, it worked..... 2 weeks
And yesterday.....the brakes are gone....again....

Not only are they now scared to drive it..... The car doesn't feel safe to me either, it is 2 hours away and I am not talking of the financial drain it is to have to fix all of it (and it's still going)......

Does anyone still have these issues despite the recalls ? (or are we the lucky ones)

Sounds like all the problems started when they first decided to get the car checked, might indicate a crappy service department. Did they get the work preformed at a chevy dealer?

I have never heard of anyone ever replacing one rotor, I've always replaced them in pairs especially when putting on new brake pads.

I agree. If this work was done by a dealership service department, I'd say it's time to find another. Actually, I'd take it to my trusted independent mechanic before I'd have out of warranty work done by a dealership that I didn't have a long term relationship with.

OP?
Currently you folks are the unlucky ones but because you are providing third party information we are hard pressed to make suggestions.

For example: Brakes are out, again.
The repairs done at the first report are pad and rotor replacement.....this is normal wear and tear.
Now, the brake vacuum switch.....this is a three (soon to be four) year old product recall.....are we to interpet this as the recall was finally done over the last month?
If this is so, then we have to wonder about what other services have been overlooked and the issues at hand may not be so much the car as it could be a result of lackluster servicing.

Now, you indicate the brakes have failed.....again.
Specifically, what has failed?
For example: the brakes have a high, hard pedal that is not very responsive when applied?......or, does this mean the pedal goes to the floor with little available braking?
Two different scenarios, each the same complaint......brakes don't work.

So, we need clear information as opposed to the third party type being provided......I'd like to make suggestions but all I'd be doing is providing a disservice to you.

The 2013 recall regarding the brakes have been done in 2013 or 2014
The car has been checked regularly.

I know I experienced myself and before the recent fixes
hard pedal going backward (on a cold engine) and braking maybe at 5% of what it should be... (And then goes fine when going forward)

For the most recent ones, I'll dig more details

But who borrows someone's car and then takes it to the Chevy Dealer to check it out. If they took it to the neighborhood guy perhaps they were taken for a ride. Who paid for this myriad of repairs? Honestly it sounds like neglect on your part even though they are responsible for repairs. What computer did they replace? I would have just returned the CRUZE to you when it first started falling apart.

They took it to the Chevy dealer to do the last recall (something to do about the computer that got replaced) and do a general check since it has not been driven for 2 months and one of the condition in me letting them borrowing the car was to take care of repairs if it were to break down.
Which is why I paid for the myriad of repairs, since problems were from the start.
We live in SoCal brian....I may consider when my husband comes back from deployment.

The last news I have on the last brake issue
- going backward in the afternoon (but not driven since the day before), relatively cold (socal) day
- pedal went to the floor, no resistance
- Going down on a shared driveway, he said there was no weight left on the emergency brake
The driver put it into drive to avoid hitting a couple of very expensive cars belonging to the neighbor !

If that can help....
It will be checked on tuesday.

Pedal to floor is going to be a failed master cylinder if the fluid level is still correct.
If fluid is empty, something was incorrectly done during the front brake job and there likely will be fluid thrown all over the suspect caliper.

My money is on a failed master since the hydraulics are generally not disturbed during pad replacement unless the calipers were replaced or a fluid flush was incorrectly performed.

So, fluid full= a new failure.
Fluid empty= a caused failure.

Apparently, next step is changing the vacuum....$590 at the dealership / $460 at trusted mechanic
