Service emissions system and CEL

I bought a brand new 2017 Chevy Cruze Premier in August. I have 10,000 miles on it already. I drove the car Saturday and parked it at my home with nothing out of the ordinary. On Sunday morning I got up to go to work and it was cold so I tried to remote start and it wouldn't start. I got in and it started fine but had a CEL and got a notification from OnStar that the emissions needs servicing within 7 days. Gonna call the dealership later today and schedule an appt.

What the heck? Is this normal and what could be causing it?

Thanks in advance for any light you might can shed on this.

Well, as you have found out the remote start is inoperative if a engine service light is on.....so, that part is normal and the function will return once the problem is sorted out.

As far as a suggestion....we have comparatively few gen II owners so there haven't been any real failures yet to form an opinion.
I can't think of anything to recommend.

At your end, I hope you'll post back with the dealers findings so we can share the info down the road.

Thanks in advance,

Rob
Well, I'm not sure what's going on. I drove the car 16 miles to work on Sunday morning and it sat parked for 24 hours until I got off from work this morning at 8 am. I tried the remote again and it still didn't work and as you pointed out I remember now about the remote not working with CEL on. It was on when I left work, but somewhere on the 16 miles back home it went off. I had to drive it about 100 miles round trip today and it didn't come back and isn't running abnormal.
Regardless of brand I have run across codes set for no real reason that end up clearing themselves.

We call that the errant electron.....makes us old wrenches hair even more grey.

Rock on and see if it replays.

Will do Rob and thanks. Will update if it returns.
Sorry to bring up an old feed, but mine just did this yesterday. What did the dealership tell you?

. Same thing happened to my Cruze last week what did the dealer say
I never had it checked at the dealer. The CEL comes on from time to ttime and usually clears itself farily quickly. I read somewhere where an 02 sensor causes this maybe.
