Took my Cruze out for a nice drive today. While accelerating the car hesitates to shift. Check engine light flashes and Tach sticks at about 5000rpm. It eventually goes into gear but really struggles. 61,000 miles. What could be the problem??? Any thoughts???

Have you ever changed the transmission fluid at the mileage specified in your owner's manual?

Before performing any maintenance you must find out what codes are stored.

Even if the trans needs service it won't cause the check engine to flash.

Your original question…..no, there has not been a reported pattern of failure similar to what you are reporting.

CEL flashing means that the engine is misfiring. Check stored codes, but it's possible you've got a failing coil pack.
