I'm going in for some exhaust work today. Was wondering what you guys have found in that sweet spot for tubing size?

There is no performance to be gained on a 1.4L engine with a larger diameter pipe. If anything the flow rate would be worse since that small of an engine would have a hard time filling the larger pipe.

There is one aftermarket exhaust for the cruze over 2.5in, and personally it sounds like crap. All the name brand cat back systems are 2.5in.

I would love to enlarge the tubing for performance sake and still keep the stock sound. Is that possible?

you could remove the stock resonator/cats, but run the 2.5" piping into the stock muffler, I don't know how beneficial this would be but I'm sure it'd help, bring it over to an exhaust shop and see what they can do.
