So, just for fun I did an estimate of my total cost to own my Cruze Diesel for the past 19 months. I included $16000 in depreciation based on $26K out the door and $10K trade value now. I added in insurance, registration, fuel (3.80 per gallon approx average at 41.8 MPG lifetime) and maintenance (few oil changes and fuel filters, cabin air filters, wipers), snow tires. Based on these estimates which are not exact but pretty close, my car has cost me approximately 28.5 cents per mile to drive. This handily beats the national averages:

Did your figures allow for loan repayments as well?
Yes and no. I just did the math again and my out the door price was actually closer to $25,600. I carried financing for about 6 months and then it was paid off. There was a pre payment penalty of like $250 (F U Huntington Bank and Lash Chevrolet for screwing me on this). Add in the 6 months of interest and we're right about there.
