2012 Cruze LTZ with 42,000 miles. The radio touchscreen will intermittently cut out and reboot, more often than not it wont fully return to working order (missing buttons, graphical glitches etc) The battery cable has been replaced and the software has been updated by a dealer. The instrument panel screen will also show "bonnet" instead of "hood" when the hood is opened, and "tire" will be spelled "tyre" (no settings were manually changed). We haven't been able to find a correlation with the radio cutting in and out. All of the fuses were pushed on and are all firm, all battery connections are tight and corrosion free, battery has been tested to be good.

The dealer wants $1,300 to replace the radio unit. Is this the recommended action? If the instrument panel screen is changing on it's own, could the radio still be the issue? To me it sounds like a bigger electrical problem. What should be done?

They won't give a 100% guarantee. So if it doesn't work I am out a wad. Would the radio having issues still cause the panel between the speedometer and tach change to the European spelling? That's the reason I don't think it's the radio unit

Yeah, I know we can find a radio unit cheaper that way, but I still don't want to buy one and that not be the issue.

To change the settings normally you have to go through the settings on the blinker stick(?) And change from some setting I can't remember the name of right now. But it changes the tire pressures to "tyre pressures" and the hood, when open, is called a "bonnet". It will switch back and forth on its own sometimes when restarting the car, sometimes it stays. It's extremely random-like.
