Transmission issue

Took my 2018 with 40k cruze in for a transmission fluid exchange at the dealer. Immediately after leaving I noticed it was shifting a little hard by the time I got on the highway the transmission was slipping like crazy. So I turned around and limped it back to the dealership driving 35mph on the highway at 3500 rpm could barely get it to move from a stop. They told me they drained it from the wrong spot and it was 2 quarts low and it drives fine now. I'm concerned that damage has been done taking life out of my transmission. It was shifting like a dream before I brought it in. How concerned should I be? In the mean time it seems to be shifting fine.

So the mechanic told me he pulled the plug for the drain instead of the fill plug when he was filling it up. So it must have been real low on fluid.
These kind of things are why dealers scare me for anything maintenance related. I understand people make mistakes but this is basic **** and there is no excuse for that.

Ensure you keep a record of that ... hopefully it's in writing somewhere, so that down the line after the powertrain warranty expires, you'll have proof that someone did something that may have caused premature failure of your transmission. Hopefully you didn't drive too far after leaving the dealership and returning, so if it was a short distance, I don't think you built up enough heat to do any damage to the transmission, but I'm no mechanic (although I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express).

It was about 5 miles round trip. The mechanic said when he pulled the plug smoke came out. I hope no damage was done..

As Spaycace said, go back to the dealer and get a printout of what happened. Don't be crazy about it, but be firm as down the road you never know.

UPDATE.

Been noticing the car will slip between 2/3 gear after left sitting for a little while. It would do it a couple of times then smooth out. Took back to dealer they are rebuilding the transmission.
I hate to breathe life into an old thread, but any issues since? I had a similar thing happen. Hit a deer, and had the car repaired. They forgot to reassemble the transmission cooler lines correctly and I blew a hose off one of the metal cooler lines, and lost most of the fluid. It was black as black and figured it was engine oil. Loaded on a trailer and took it home. After changing engine oil, took it for a drive and it began slipping very bad and had to limp home (about 5 miles) barely moving at higher RPM as you did because the transmission was very low on fluid (didn't know that at the time). After finally discovering what it actually was, I added new fluid after repairing the hose and drained/added new fluid to the transmission. Now my Cruze shifts hard from 3 to 4 gear. If taking off from a stop in traffic, it will at times slip badly like someone riding a clutch on a manual. I know it is there, so i tend to lift off the gas during that shift and left it "gently" shift into 4th and then I am fine. I wonder if it is a clutch, or solenoid for that gear and what it will take to fix my issue. All other gears shift smoothly.
