Transmission shift flare and additives.

Has anyone tried adding any additives to remedy a shift flare? It doesnt slip under load so im skeptical to add any additives to it and potentially cause more damage. I was thinking about switching to amsoil or adding lucas stop slip. Ive drained/filled the transmission twice so far and got alot of dark fluid out of it - Didnt smell burnt but definitely dark.

Newest auto trans fluids turn very dark very fast and color can no longer be used as a way to determine transmission health.
Nowadays, the nose, knows......the only way to tell if something is amiss is by the burnt odor.

All that aside, describe the flair......what gearchange (s) for example....ie, first to second.....second to third.....third to T/C lockup.....whatcha really feeling.

Are you comparing this trans shifting to another car?
So far, the odds are there is nothing wrong since you indicate normal/firm shifts under load.

Its the 3-4 and sometimes 4-5 shift. Jumps 2-300 RPM during the shift. Ive had it checked at the GM dealer when the car was under used car warranty and go figure they "couldnt find anything". I did have a concern about the neutral bump but they said its normal for this style transmission. The flare concerns me though.

About how many miles have you put on the car since purchase?

Rob
3200 miles since november. Massachusetts law states they only have to warranty it for 1250 miles

A 200-300 RPM 3-4 shift flare is somewhat normal for this transmission in both Ford and GM vehicles. It's a combination of clutch changes and TC unlock/relock during the upshift. My AT Cruze does it pretty noticeably on that shift going uphill when the trans fluid is still cold.
I suspect you are feeling normal operation as jblackburn stated.

Your car should still be under GM powertrain warranty, 5 years/100,000 miles regardless of ownership if you are within the mileage limitation....just for possible piece of mind.

Also, this trans is 'adaptive'. That means it adapts to your driving style as miles accrue. In your case, the trans has to 'unlearn' the last operator and relearn the current (you) operators driving style.
You have just about enough miles since you got it for it to begin adapting to you.......I'd guess almost two thousand to go.

Power train warranty ran out a month after i bought it. (it was delivered early) I know lots of cars do it. It just irks the **** out of me.

Hi Dan,
Did you ever figure out what was causing this or if it is normal? Mine is doing the same thing
