My daughters 2011 LT started off giving her issues like wanting to accelerate and being sluggish. The day is it messed up she said it would t crank so she jumped it off. And then shortly after it started to run hot, so she pulled over and it was making that terrible noise it makes when the turbo isn’t working properly. Also noticed some leakage under the front right side area. The turbo was replaced and it ran for approximately 3 hours fine then it slowly wouldn’t accelerate at all. Started making the same exact noise it was making before. Is there anything I should have checked in accordance to the turbocharger that could be the cause of the damage to the charger? I just don’t see how a brand new one can go out that fast!!! Please help before I buy another and it’s installed and it messes it also. Thank you!!

Who put the replacement Turbo in that ran for 3 hours?

My husbands brother whom is a “somewhat” of a mechanic. Would you suggest replacing the oil feed line? And how do you feel about just replacing the cartridge in the turbocharger instead of purchasing the entire turbocharger? When we removed the cartridge both sides were eat up pretty bad! After it’s installed does it have to be tuned somehow? Thank you for any info!

Most buy the full assembly. I’m sure you could do just the cartridge. Yes replace the oil feed like. It may have been what messed up your current turbo. Also the oil return line gets brittle and can crack, I believe most replace it too.

Would you suggest to replace the intercooler bypass valve or the sensor? Does the vehicle have to be tuned once all is replaced? And what happens to all those little metal shards that break off? Does the engine need flushing out?

Ok, just a follow up. Replaced the turbo again...Replaced the oil feed line, wastegate solenoid, new oil filter & oil. The vehicle seems to be running fine, except we are picking up the P0299 (Permanent) code on the reader, but no lights on the dash. Should I be concerned?
