Still a new car, and want to keep it that way. Somehow my wife and I must have parked someplace with fresh asphalt, both front rubber floor mats were coated with tar. What a job, mineral spirits is all that would work. Still some dots here and there, but said forget about those. Least the original floor mats and carpeting were clean.
Rest of the interior just need a good wipe down. Used ArmorAll on the plastic, and a leather polish and conditioner on the leather, interior really sparkles now.
Then the exterior. Like a couple of months ago, body was loaded with that rusty tar spots all over, believe the cause of that is using ground up old tires with the steel bits still left in. That was miserable to remove, but didn't find any of that this time. Front end was loaded with red spots on a white car, smashed insects. Get that on all my vehicles, but for some reason, really miserable to remove these off the Cruze. The paint on my Supra or Cavalier is like hard glass, paint on the Cruze feels soft and porous, can only bend down so long, went back to the front about five times with constant soaking and Turtle car wash to try and soften those up. After that was the waxing.
Did notice light scratches on the door sills, more than likely caused by tiny stones that stick to your shoes. Never occurred to me that the Cruze does not come with door sills. As my memory is going to pot, opened the doors on my Supra and Cavalier, they have door sills. Where are the door sills on the Cruze? Just bare body paint! Got out my tape measure and was looking for a piece of embossed rubber 2 by 24" without any luck I could glue down.
So did a net search from anywhere from 22 bucks on ebay with adhesive hold down to 505 bucks from my Chevy dealer. Not being a big spender, just ordered the 22 buck ones with free shipping from Hong Kong, just to protect the paint. Really don't care if they light up or not.
Also found one tiny paint nick on one of the rocker panels, where and how did that get there? Recalled when I got my 2004 Cavalier new, GM included a pencil like paint touch up, still have it, never used it. But nothing like that with the Cruze, so will have to try to find some touch up paint. Other than that, looks like a brand new car again. Can't tell after all that work how I will hate to take it out again. Its a dirty world out there.
Would appreciate any suggestions for removing insects, never had this problem before
