Why Does My Car Jerk When I Accelerate After Making A Complete Stop?

11760 Views 7 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  MargoMcclain
Only whenever I make full stops at a stop sign or a light waiting for my turn to go sometimes as soon as I accelerate (I dont slam on the gas either) it jerks a little bit. But it doesn't happen all the time. What could be the cause of it?

Car drops into neutral at a stop as a fuel saving feature. You're feeling the transition back into gear.

You can put in manual mode when coming to a stop (won't go into neutral) or just learn to ease on to the gas gingerly.

^^Yes, ease into the gas.

Took some getting used to at first for me.
This will be accentuated if you are a 'two foot' driver......meaning, brake with your left foot, apply gas with your right.

Lifting off the brake while applying the gas makes the trans engage sharply.

I wasn't aware that this was a feature of the gas models as well. I noticed this when I first test drove the diesel.
Maybe it's my driving habits, (I do drive 2-footed.), but I rarely experience the problem. Usually it occurs when I'm slowing down and then suddenly get on the gas. I end up surprising the transmission.

That drove me nuts with a rental Cruze in DC traffic. If you slow down and then get on the gas again, even lightly, it's horribly confused.

Car Jerks after full stop

I was so afraid when my vehicle kept jerking and surging. I had a rental in Alabama and it did the same thing, so I felt a little better, believed that it was a feature until that Cruze failed to start and I was left to return it with the illuminated engine trouble light showing.I decided to come here to see what others had to say. I feel a little better hearing that this is a fuel saving feature of the vehicle, but I still have an issue with the fact that my fuel gauge never registers full even when he gas pump shuts off and it's supposed to be full. Also, my fuel seems to go very fast. I don't drive very much, yet the fuel seems to evaporate. I looked up online because I wanted to check for fuel recalls and there are actually 4 safety recalls for the 2016 Cruze which I bought 2 months ago.
