As I am sure most of the northern chaps on here have the same issues as I when dealing with the local county's pouring on massive amounts of salt, beat juice and liquid calcium, it seems like almost daily I am power washing the car to remove the road grime. My question to you all is where are the problem area's on the cruze for rusting? I have the rubberized under coating on the under carriage and I use the liquid Krown 2x a year. Each spring I power wash all the junk off and start fresh each fall. To date I have no rust of the car and I want to keep it that way. If anyone is aware of any problematic area's please let me know.

What I find on some cars is rust will develop in corners where pieces such as plastic chrome strips are clipped on. My assumption is that the paint was chipped in the factory when the part was applied or the owner of the vehicle damaged the paint when they pressed or hit the snap-on pieces. If you really want to go all out on preventative maintenance, I'd check areas like that. Another big one is the wheelwells. Check often for paint chips from rocks to make sure nothing is down to the metal that will cause eventual rusting. One thing I found with my Cruze is that just behind the front wheel on the driver side in the door frame, water poured down on a sunny day from melting snow and then froze in a clump. When I went to open my door, the bottom front corner of the door scraped on the ice and chipped a bit of the paint away. I don't think it's down to the metal but I have yet to really take a look at it and use some touchup paint. One other spot for pretty much any car is the pinch welds on the underside on both sides of the vehicle (where you typically should be putting a jack to lift the vehicle). This can take a bit of paint damage from scrapping on something while driving (poorly maintained speed bumps) or from general use of a jack system. The only way I really thought of preventing that was putting some sort of rockguard (the kind of spray-on material that's used in pickup truck beds). If you don't do much rust prevention, the pinch welds will really take a hit and can really start to rot away.

I hear you. The paint quality on this car is pure crap. It chips something easy. Not to metal, but to the primer. I will be repainting a few panels this spring and than adding a nano sealant to the too the entire painted surface. This stuff requires no further waxing, sealing, buffing etc. Just apply and is rated for 3-5 years. Only way to remove is by general wear and tear, or a wet sand. I have decided to go with Gtechniq

Keep up with your krown and you'll be fine. Do not use rust check as the stuff is pure garbage. Take it from me, I basically live in the Atlantic Ocean.
