My parents have a 2005 Malibu Classic as well. Theirs is the 2.2L 4 cylinder. 185k miles and the car just keeps going with minimal maintenance.
Yup that 2.2 and the GM N body is one of those cars that will last forever. That is probably why they stopped making it. Never had to replace the **** things. That is why I miss my 2002 Alero with the 2.2! My son who just started driving is driving my wife's Classic and wanted to know if I could find him an Alero or Grand Am for a first car! He likes the size and driveability and knowing dad car work on it for him. Before he started driving and driving the Classic, he wanted a Scion TC. Doesn't get the best MPG but easy to drive!

I also have the General Altimax Arctics. They are the only snows I've ever had, so I can't compare, but the Cruze is amazing in the snow. I just put mine on last weekend as we've had such a mild early winter.

I'm running the Xi3's, and so far have been very happy with them, although I never had problems with the stock tires the first year they were on the car. The Xi3's definitely have much better traction. Have the Blizzaks WS80s on my wife's car and I don't care for the noise (not loud, but you could hear them). I cross the Continental Divide twice every day, so I do drive a lot on snow covered roads with lots of hills.
