There are quite a few performance parts for these motors. They will never be a Racecar though, so remember that. A few things you can do include Tune, downpipe, midpipe, cat-back, port your intake, cold air intake, ect. Check out Bad News Racing dot net, they sell most of what's available for these cars.

Drop in a set of NGK BKR7E V-Power spark plugs. That's a start to improved drivability.

Along with everything else, run 91 octane. The engine was designed for 91 octane (KRD code on label in the glovebox). The ECU throws away power to protect the engine when running 87 octane.

I'd really love if someone took the time to convert the Cruze to RWD and swap in a V8. That would be a unique sleeper right there. Even a 2.0 turbo swap would be cool to see.
