Once up to temp feel the upper hose to see if it’s stiff or soft and very squeezable. If it’s squeezable then it’s likely not building pressure which will allow the coolant to boil.

if you overheated it then you might have effed the head gasket and the bubbles you are seeing is actually combustion gasses. Pull the dipstick and check the consistency and coloration. If it looks like old black oil then that is good. If it looks like coffee with creamer or chocolate milk then that is bad.

You can get a combustion gas leak detection kit for about $25 from Harbor Freight to check for a blown head gasket.

It’s a pressurized system so the hose should NEVER collapse, it should expand slightly. If you have what you call an oily substance in the coolant then you have a problem somewhere. You should never be getting oil into the coolant. It’s coming from the engine somewhere. I still strongly suggest you check your oil for signs of coolant in it and I still suggest testing for combustion gasses in the coolant.

Also catching WHAT just before it runs out of coolant? Radiator? Overflow reservoir? If it’s the radiator yeah the OP is seriously compromising his engine. Also the if the res is going empty then he is still catching it way late for being low on coolant. There are full and add lines on the res that are well above being totally empty
