Why are most articles saying our Cruzes only get around 39 highway? It's the Eco 2014 I'm specifically speaking of? I consistently get 39-40s all around, and highway at 70 mph I get average in summer around 42.
Eco automatic was rated @ 39
Eco MT @ 42
All other gas 1.4Ts @ 38

Actually fairly impressed with this for an automatic. It's nice being able to drive somewhere without being swamped in traffic. Most of the trip at 70-75 up to the mountains and back. Wasn't even really trying; I have seen 47 for short stints when I have tried to keep my speed below 70 or keep myself from foot to the floor passing.

Assume your 109.6 miles even at over 40mpg your fuel gage is below 3/4 a tank? Wow...

When I am just on freeway at reasonable speed, fuel tank filled to neck on CTD I go 375 to 400 before I get to the 3/4 mark on fuel gauge. If there is one thing I really like about my diesel it's the fuel range to one tank.

I really like the instrument panel on your car...
There were about 75 miles of city driving on it before that. I reset Trip "B" just for this all-highway jaunt.

The small tank (13.6 gal) does get on my nerves at times though.

The IP is part of the Sun & Sound package in the Gen 2 and well worth the upgrade. It's the standard cluster on other GM vehicles (Canyon, Malibu, etc)

Should I be getting better mpg?

For 18" wheels and an automatic, you're doing about what it's capable of.

The MPG champs are the Eco manuals; dropping to those 17" wheels and LRR tires might gain you a MPG or two, but the efficiency of the Eco comes from the tall gearing, less parasitic drag from the automatic's pump and torque converter, and a couple aerodynamic tweaks (front bumper flaps that close off and underbody panels).

For a more apples-to-apples comparison, even though they are rated the same MPG by the EPA, I can definitely say that the Gen 1 manual (LT) gets higher MPG than the Gen 1 automatic (LT).
