this is my first turbo car and i was just wondering is it norma for the coolant to get low. ive had this car brand spanking new with 7 miles and now at 7000 miles and the coolant is more the half empty. is that normal for a turbo car because it runs hotter? please let me know...

First, take your car to your dealership and have them fill the coolant. Sometimes the coolant isn't full when the car is delivered. Next, keep an eye on it. There is an arrow on the coolant tank that indicates high/low levels. Many of us have reported a slow drop in coolant that seems to be very, very difficult to find.

Yes, top it off with dexcool only. There will be a full mark on the side of the tank.

When they fill it at the factory, some air will get in and it will slowly bleed it's way out over time. That should only last for the first few weeks though.

No. There is a specific fill procedure in the owners manual that gets the air out of the system. The car is shipped with the cooling system properly filled. The coolant level in my car has not dropped at all.

Can you get us a page number? I searched my owner's manual and couldn't find this. I'm starting to wonder if I had air bubbles in my coolant when I picked up the car as it appears to have stopped "leaking". I know when the fluorescent dye was put in the system was under pressure and the level definitely dropped when the recovery tank cap was removed (carefully as it was hot coolant).

Please don't make things sound more complicated than they are for the average person. Unless your overflow tank is completely empty and air has actually entered your cooling system, you don't need any sort of "specific" fill precedure.

Both my Cruze and my SS turbo were down slightly below the full hot line at the first oil change. Both cars had less than 1/2 litre added to bring it to the proper level and neither car needed any after that point. So either the factory isn't doing the fill properly or a little air was in the system.

Has GM really fixed the issues with their Dexcool coolant. Im considering to run Prestones green mix with all extended life coolant to be safe from any effects dexcool may have long term. I ran prestone in all my other GM dexcool engines 4.3 V6 and 4.2 I6 and never any issues. Any thoughts or facts on any of this?

Dexcool has been fine for years and years. We regularly flush Dexcool and unless someone has left in there for years beyond what it's supposed to be, there are no problems.
